WTO rules against US and Boeing in mammoth trade row with EU

28 Mar 2019; DW: US aerospace giant Boeing has received unfair tax breaks in the US state of Washington, an appellate panel in the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled on Thursday.

The tax break of some $100 million (€89 million) annually harmed the sales of Boeing's European rival Airbus, according to the WTO officials.

Trump-linked far-right groups in US spent millions on European lobbying

28 Mar 2019; DW: Right-wing Christian groups in the United States spent at least $50 million (€56 million) on supporting far-right activists and campaigns in Europe in recent years, according to an investigative report.

Publicly available financial filings showed 15 conservative non-profit organizations spent some $51 million in Europe from 2008 to 2017, the report by UK-based openDemocracy found.

Washington: Feud over full release of Mueller report intensifies

WASHINGTON, March 28 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report on the Russia investigation is more than 300 pages long, media reported Thursday, citing a Department of Justice official.

The official described the confidential report as more than 300 pages. A second official told CNN that it was between 300 and 400 pages, not including exhibits.

Mueller wrapped up his nearly two-year investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election by submitting a report to Attorney General William Barr Friday.

US county declares state of emergency amid measles outbreak

27 Mar 2019; AFP: A New York county hit by a measles outbreak declared a state of emergency Tuesday and banned non-vaccinated minors from public places in a bid to prevent the once-eliminated disease from spreading.

The measure, which defines a public place as anywhere "more than 10 persons are intended to congregate" -- including public transport -- was announced by officials in Rockland County, 25 miles (40 kilometers) north of New York City.

Facebook bans whitist content

Facebook said in a statement "white nationalism and separatism cannot be meaningfully separated from white supremacy and organized hate groups."

Roundup cancer case: Monsanto ordered to pay US man $80 million

28 Mar 2019; DW: A US jury has awarded $80 million (€71 million) in damages to a California man who blamed Roundup weed killer for causing his cancer.

The ruling is a blow to German chemical and pharmaceutical giant Bayer, whose subsidiary Monsanto makes the herbicide. The trial could pave the way for more cases linking Roundup's main ingredient, glyphosate, to cancer.
