“Hey, what’s going on? Anybody all right? What’s happening?” Kirk Bertolet called out to his coworkers at a Northern California rail yard on Wednesday morning. “It was just eerie.”

Cautiously, Bertolet left his barricaded office at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in San Jose, hoping he could offer first aid to anyone who needed help. But all he found were bodies.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson charged officers Christopher Burbank and Matthew Collins, who are both white, with second-degree murder Thursday after witnesses reported that they attacked Ellis without provocation.

USA: California to offer $116M in coronavirus vaccine prize money

Los Angeles, May 28 (AP-PTI) Californians will be eligible for USD 116.5 million in prize money for getting coronavirus shots, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday, a windfall aimed at getting millions more vaccinated before the nation's most populous state fully reopens next month.

The state estimates about 12 million Californians 12 and older have not been vaccinated. About 63 per cent of the 34 million eligible have gotten shots, though the pace has slowed markedly in recent weeks as infection rates have plummeted to record lows.

Samuel Cassidy, 57, turned the gun on himself Wednesday morning as sheriff’s deputies rushed in at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority in San Jose.

World has 40% chance of temporarily reaching 1.5C threshold in next five years: UN agency

UNITED NATIONS , May 27 (APP): There is a 40% chance of the world temporarily hitting the 1.5C temperature rise threshold in one of the next five years, the UN weather agency warns in a new report issued on Thursday.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said there was a 40% chance of the watershed global warming mark being met during the time frame, and these odds are increasing with time.

Major US arms sale deal to UAE at risk over China ties

The paper quoted US officials as saying that American spy agencies have in recent weeks monitored two planes belonging to China's People's Liberation Army which landed at an airport in the UAE and unloaded crates of undetermined materials.

Israel rejects US plan to reopen consulate for Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem

27 May 2021; MEMO: The Israeli occupation authorities rejected on Wednesday the US plan to reopen its consulate in East Jerusalem, local media have reported.

Israel's Ambassador in Washington, Gilad Erdan, said that the government firmly opposes the move to reopen the consulate catering for the Palestinians within what he described as Israel's "sovereign territory".

Working closely with Jio to build affordable smartphone: Google CEO Pichai

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Thursday said the company continues to engage closely with partner Jio on the initiative of building an affordable smartphone and that work is underway on the project.

Last year, Google had picked up a 7.7 per cent stake in Jio Platforms for Rs 33,737 crore. It had also entered into a commercial agreement with Jio Platforms to jointly develop an entry-level, affordable smartphone.
