India: Karnataka CM Yediyurappa tests positive for COVID-19

Bengaluru, Aug 2 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.

"I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine," the veteran BJP leader wrote on Twitter.

The chief minister was taken to the Manipal hospital at the Old Airport Road here, sources close to him said.

Government officials told PTI that the approval for conducting phase 2 and 3 clinical trials by the SII was granted by DCGI Dr V G Somani late Sunday night after a thorough evaluation based on the recommendations of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19

China sends team to Hong Kong to do widespread coronavirus testing

Australia's Victoria state declares disaster, night curfew

Melbourne, Aug 2 (AP/PTI) The premier of Australia's hard-hit Victoria state has declared a disaster among sweeping new coronavirus restrictions across Melbourne and elsewhere from Sunday night.

An evening curfew will be implemented across Melbourne from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Premier Daniel Andrews says the state of disaster proclamation gave police greater power.

Indian HM Amit Shah tests positive for Covid-19

Delhi; 02 Aug 2020 (UMMN):  Indian HM Amit Shah has tested positive for covid-19, and has been hospitalised on doctors advice.

"On getting the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done," Mr Shah's tweet in Hindi roughly said.

Thousands protest in Berlin against coronavirus restrictions

BERLIN (AP) — Thousands of protesters against German coronavirus restrictions converged Saturday in Berlin for a demonstration proclaiming “the end of the pandemic” has arrived just as authorities voice increasing concern about an upturn in new infections.

A crowd of people whistling and cheering, and with few masks in sight, marched through downtown Berlin from the Brandenburg Gate ahead of a rally on a wide boulevard that runs through the city’s Tiergarten park.

Brazil Adds Over 1,200 Deaths From COVID-19

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 1 (NNN-CMA) – Brazil yesterday reported a daily increase of 1,212 COVID-19 deaths, taking the national death toll to 92,475.

Health authorities also detected 52,383 new cases in the past 24 hours, raising the total caseload to 2,662,485.

The state of Sao Paulo, the most populous in the country, is also the most affected, with 542,304 cases and 22,997 deaths, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 165,495 infections and 13,477 deaths, and Ceara, with 173,882 positives and 7,668 deaths.

Colombia: COVID-19 Death Toll Tops 10,000

BOGOTA, Aug 1 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Colombia registered 295 new COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking its total to 10,105, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said yesterday.

The country has so far reported a total of 295,508 cases, up 9,488 from the previous day, including 3,717 in the capital Bogota, 2,073 in Antioquia and 668 in the city of Barranquilla.

According to the ministry, 154,387 people have recovered so far.

South Korea arrests leader of church with big cluster

Seoul, Aug 1 (AP/PTI) South Korean prosecutors arrested the elderly leader of a secretive religious sect Saturday as part of an investigation into allegations that the church hampered the government's anti-virus response after thousands of worshippers were infected in February and March.

Prosecutors in the central city of Suwaon have been questioning 88-year-old Lee Man-hee, chairman of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus, over charges that the church hid some members and underreported gatherings to avoid broader quarantines.
