Lucknow, Apr 1 (PTI) The association of ambulance employees in Uttar Pradesh has called off their strike following negotiations with the administration over their demands for timely wages and protective gear to guard against coronavirus.

Hanuman Pandey, a senior office bearers of the drivers' body, said they went on strike on Tuesday afternoon but it was called off in the night following negotiations.

New Delhi, Mar 31 (PTI) The total number of coronavirus cases in Delhi climbed to 120 on Tuesday after 23 new cases of the pandemic was reported in the past 24 hours, the Health Department said.

These 120 cases include 24 people who took part in a religious congregation at Nizamuddin West area earlier this month. Till Monday night, the number of cases of the deadly COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) stood at 97, including two deaths.

Gorakhpur, Apr 1 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh reported its first coronavirus-related death on Wednesday after test reports of a 25-year-old man, who died two days ago, came COVID-19 positive.

The man was admitted to the BRD Medical College here on Sunday and he was suffering from kidney and liver problems, the institute's principal Ganesh Kumar said.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 1 (NNN-APP) – The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Pakistan rose to 2,039, with 26 deaths reported across the country, according to the newest data, released on the website of the Health Ministry on Wednesday (today).

The country’s eastern Punjab province and southern Sindh province were the worst-hit areas with 708 and 676 cases respectively, followed by the northwest province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which has 253 cases.

WASHINGTON, April 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The total US death toll from the coronavirus pandemic topped 4,000 early Wednesday, more than double the number from three days earlier, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The number of deaths was 4,076 – more than twice the 2,010 recorded late Saturday, Johns Hopkins data showed.

More than 40 percent of recorded deaths nationally were in New York state, the Johns Hopkins data showed.

BANGKOK, Apr 1 (NNN-TNA) – Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, told media, after the Cabinet meeting, that, he may extend the state of emergency decree for another month or two, should Thailand’s COVID-19 situation does not ease.

“The government is constantly reviewing the situation,” said Prayut, “Looking at the present situation, the government is unlikely to lift the state of emergency soon.”

Prayut announced the state of emergency, which took effect from Mar 26 and goes on until Apr 30.

RIO DE JANEIRO, April 1 (NNN-Xinhua) — The number of deaths caused by the novel coronavirus in Brazil has hit 201 with a rise of 42 in 24 hours, the country’s health ministry announced on Tuesday.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased 1,138 on Monday to 5,717.

The figures released on Tuesday mark a record rise in both deaths and new cases, the health ministry said.

The novel coronavirus spread quickly in Brazil: from the first case to the 5,000-case mark, only 35 days passed.

JERUSALEM, Mar 31 (NNN-MA’AN) – A total of 448 people in Israel tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 4,695, the Israeli Ministry of Health said.

It said the death toll of the virus in the country has hit 16, adding, of the 527 patients being treated in hospitals across Israel, 79 are in serious condition.

Earlier on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced further measures to tighten the closure in the country.

ANKARA, Apr 1 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Turkish government is working on a bill, that would release tens of thousands of inmates from prisons, amid fears that the COVID-19 pandemic will carve a deadly path through cramped penitentiaries among prisoners and staff.

A first version of the draft, which caused outrage, reportedly included the release of sex offenders, domestic abusers and drug related prisoners.

However, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, “categorically ruled out such a measure” during a cabinet meeting, daily Sabah reported.
