Coronavirus worst crisis since WWII, UN boss says as deaths surge

1 April 2020; AFP: The global death toll from the coronavirus pandemic continued to worsen Wednesday despite unprecedented lockdowns, as the head of the United Nations sounded the alarm on what he said was humanity's worst crisis since World War II.

The warning came as Donald Trump told Americans to brace for a "very painful" few weeks after the United States registered its deadliest 24 hours of the crisis.

China mulls sending medical convoy to Palestine

31 Mar 2020; MEMO: China is considering sending a medical convoy to Palestine, Chinese ambassador to the State of Palestine, Guo Wei, said yesterday, stressing that his country is doing its best to help the Palestinians overcome the coronavirus crisis.

Speaking to Palestine TV, the Chinese ambassador said that China is supporting the state of Palestine in its battle against the coronavirus.

Next 30 days are very vital, says Trump

Washington, Mar 31 (PTI) US President Donald Trump has said that the next 30 days are very vital for America in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, as the confirmed cases of those infected by the deadly disease soured to 164,000 and fatalities crossed 3,100 in the country.

His remarks came a day after he extended the "social distancing" guidelines until April 30, expecting the peak death rate from COVID-19 to hit the country in two weeks.

India: 2,000 people attended Nizamuddin congregation

New Delhi, Mar 30 (PTI) Over 2,000 delegates, including from Indonesia and Malaysia, attended the Tabligh-e-Jamaat congregation in Nizamuddin West from March 1-15, officials said on Monday as the south Delhi neighbourhood was virtually sealed following fears that some people may have contracted COVID-19.

Delhi Police and CRPF officials and medical teams went to the locality late on Sunday night after reports that a large number of people were showing symptoms of the disease, the officials said.

India: 6 who attended Nizamuddin congregation die of COVID-19

Hyderabad, Mar 30 (PTI) Six people from Telangana who attended a religious congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin died due to the novel coronavirus, the state government said on Monday.

"Coronavirus has spread among some of those who attended a religious prayer meeting from March 13 to 15 at Markaz in Nizamuddin area in Delhi," according to an official release. "Among those who attended were some persons from Telangana."

India: Flying squads to conduct door-to-door survey in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 31 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said flying squads have been set up in all 227 municipal wards of Mumbai for door-to-door survey as part of efforts to check the spread of coronavirus.

The step has been taken in view of the high density of population in Mumbai where there is more possibility of spread of the disease compared to other districts.

Prince Charles is out of self-isolation and ‘in good health’ after positive test

LONDON, March 31 (NNN-AGENCIES) — British heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, who had tested positive for coronavirus, is out of self-isolation after seven days and is in good health, his spokesman said.

Last week, his Clarence House office revealed that Charles, 71, had been tested after displaying mild symptoms of the virus and had been in self-isolation at his Birkhall home in Scotland where he had continued to work.

EU announces help for Balkans after criticism

BRUSSELS, March 31 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The EU announced nearly 40 million euros to help Western Balkan countries deal with the coronavirus, after Brussels came under fire for not doing enough for its neighbours.

A further 140 million euros was announced for the European Union’s “eastern partner” countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

The moves come as the EU seeks to fight back in a publicity battle with China and Russia, who have made a great show of their gestures of support to countries struggling with the COVID-19 crisis.

Saudi Arabia: More Than 2,500 Persons Leave 14-Day Hospital Facilities With Negative Tests Of COVID-19

RIYADH, Mar 31 (NNN-SPA) – The Ministry of Health affirmed that more than 2,500 cases left health facilities after 14 days, adding that, their COVID-19 tests were negative.

In a statement, the ministry disclosed that, the cases completed all required medical procedures and examinations, amid follow-up of integrated medical cadres, including doctors, specialists and nurses.
