Spanish Princess Maria Teresa dies from COVID-19

Paris; 29 March 2020 (UMM): Spanish Princess Maria Teresa of Bourbon-Parma has become the first victim of the COVID-19 in Paris. She was eighty-six years old.

According to Fox News, the 86-year-old was a cousin of Spain's King Felipe VI. Her brother Prince Sixto Enrique de Borbon, the Duke of Aranjuez, announced on Facebook that she died after contracting COVID-19.

Iran Olympic medallist Hadadi has coronavirus

29 Mar 2020; MEMO: Ehsan Hadadi, Iran’s first Olympic track and field medallist, has tested positive for coronavirus, Reuters reported on Saturday.

Hadadi, the Asian discus champion who became a national hero when he won silver at the 2012 Olympics in London, has an athletics base in the US but was at home in Tehran when he contracted the virus.

India: Kejriwal appeals to migrant workers not to leave for native places

New Delhi, Mar 29 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday appealed to migrant workers not to leave for their native places during the 21-day nationwide lockdown in the interest of the country.

Taking to Twitter, he asked the migrant workers to stay wherever they were as the risk of the coronavirus spreading increases due to large gatherings.

India: 275 Iran-returned Indians reach Jodhpur for quarantine

Jaipur/New Delhi, Mar 29 (PTI) A batch of 275 Indians, who were recently evacuated from coronavirus-hit Iran, arrived in Rajasthan's Jodhpur from Delhi for quarantine on Sunday morning, an official said.

He said a preliminary screening of the passengers was conducted at the airport and thereafter, they were shifted to the Army Wellness Facility set up at the Jodhpur Military Station.

Singapore Penalising Social Distancing Violators

SINGAPORE, Mar 29 (NNN-CNA) – Singapore has begun penalising people, who refused to adhere to social distancing, in the latest bid to curb the COVID-19.

Beginning Friday, anyone found standing in a queue, or sitting, less than a metre (3.3 feet) from another person, in a public place, can be jailed up to six months or fined up to 10,000 Singapore dollars ($7,000), or both.

COVID-19 Cases In Turkey Climb To 7,402, With 108 Deaths

ANKARA, Mar 29 (NNN-ANADOLU) – In the past 24 hours in Turkey, 16 more people lost their lives, due to COVID-19, raising the death toll to 108, Turkish Health Minister, Fahrettin Koca, said, on Saturday Night.

The total number of COVID-19 cases rose to 7,402 in Turkey, the minister tweeted.

A total of 7,641 tests were performed on Saturday, and 1,704 were diagnosed, he added.

Turkey reported the first COVID-19 case in the country on Mar 11.

UN Donates 250,000 Face Masks To New York City

UNITED NATIONS, Mar 29 (NNN-AGENCIES) – UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said that, the world body is donating 250,000 face masks to New York City for the fight against COVID-19.

“I am pleased to announce with United States Ambassador (to the United Nations), Kelly Craft, the donation of 250,000 protective face masks, just located in the United Nations stores in New York, to the United States,” said Guterres in a statement.

Joint Fight Against COVID-19 Brings Closer Malaysia-China Ties

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 29 (NNN-XINHUA) – The joint fight against COVID-19 has bonded Malaysia and China closer, as China sending much-needed supplies and support to Malaysia, Malaysian Foreign Minister, Hishammuddin Hussein said, Saturday.

In the handover ceremony of medical equipment from the Chinese government to Malaysia, Hishammuddin said, China has once again come forward to work closely with Malaysia, as his country faces very difficult times against COVID-19, quoting a Chinese saying: “We really truly know our friends in times of crisis.”
