India: JNU asks students to vacate hostels amid corona

New Delhi, Mar 20 (PTI) The Jawaharlal Nehru University has asked it's students to vacate hostels amid the coronavirus pandemic and said mess facilities would only be available for the next 48 hours.

The directive came after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Thursday said Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal had asked all government departments, autonomous bodies and public sector units to segregate activities and suspend non-essential services.

Actor Daniel Dae Kim and and Monaco’s Prince Albert II tests positive for COVID-19

WASHINGTON, March 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Actor Daniel Dae Kim and Monaco’s Prince Albert II have become the latest public figures to disclose they were diagnosed with coronavirus, joining a list that also includes Tom Hanks and Idris Elba, reported American news agency United Press International (UPI).

Kim, 51, said in a 10-minute video posted to his Instagram account Thursday that he developed a scratchy throat after flying home to Hawaii when production on the TV series New Amsterdam was halted in New York due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Russia starts testing vaccine against COVID-19

MOSCOW, March 20 (NNN-TASS) — Russia’s sanitary watchdog Rospotrebnadzor has launched tests of a vaccine against the novel coronavirus, reported Russian news agency TASS.

“In Russia in order to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic the State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology Vector of Rospotrebnadzor has swiftly developed prototypes of vaccines based on six various technological platforms,” the watchdog said.

Experts have managed to create vaccines based on broadly used recombinant viral vectors of flu.

Australian PM announces travel ban on all non-residents

New Delhi, Mar 19 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a fervent appeal to all Indians to stay indoors as much as possible to avoid getting infected by coronavirus, saying the world has never seen a danger as grave as this.

He called for 'Janta curfew' on March 22 from 7 am-9 pm, saying no citizen, barring those in essential services, should get out of house.

China reports no new domestic coronavirus cases for first time

Beijing, Mar 19 (PTI) For the first time after the deadly coronavirus broke out about three months ago in Wuhan, China on Thursday said that no new domestic cases of the COVID-19 were confirmed, including in the virus' epicentre, even as eight more fatalities have been reported, taking the death toll in the country to 3,245.

China's National Health Commission (NHC) in its daily report said that no new domestically transmitted cases of the novel coronavirus disease were reported on the Chinese mainland on Wednesday.
