India: All 13 people on board dead in AN-32 crash: IAF

New Delhi, Jun 13; PTI/GANASHAKTI: All 13 people on board the AN-32 aircraft which crashed in Arunachal Pradesh are dead, the IAF said after a team of rescuers searched the wreckage of the plane in a heavily forested mountainous terrain on Thursday.

An IAF official said there were no survivors from the crash of the AN-32 aircraft.

"IAF Pays tribute to the brave Air-warriors who lost their life during the #An32 crash on 03 Jun 2019 and stands by with the families of the victims. May their soul rest in peace," an Indian Air Force (IAF) spokesperson said.

India: minor's rape-murder: Accused sent to judicial custody

Bhopal, Jun 11 (PTI) A special court here on Tuesday sent a man accused of raping and killing an eight-year-old girl to judicial custody for a day.

Vishnu Bamora (35) was produced before Special Judge Suresh Singh by Kamla Nagar police, said Sudha Vijay Singh Bhadoriya, Special Public Prosecutor for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

India: 4 railway policemen booked for thrashing journalist in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 13 (PTI) Four railway policemen, including a station house officer, were booked for allegedly beating up a journalist in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, an official said Thursday.

In a purported video of the incident, which went viral on social media late Tuesday night, the accused Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, dressed in plain clothes, can be seen repeatedly slapping and punching television journalist Amit Sharma.

Subsequently, the scribe was detained by the railway policemen.

Indian railways cancels 77 trains, short terminates 33 due to Cyclone Vayu

New Delhi, Jun 13 (PTI) The railways has cancelled 77 trains and short terminated 33 others due to Cyclone Vayu, the Western Railways said Thursday.

The cancellations were made as a precaution even though the cyclone changed its course and is unlikely to make landfall in Gujarat. However, it will cause heavy rain in several coastal districts of the state.

India: R'stahn local bodies bypoll: Cong bags 8 seats, BJP five

Jaipur, Jun 12 (PTI) The Congress bagged eight seats while the BJP emerged victorious on five in the Rajasthan local bodies bypoll, results of which were declared Wednesday.

Three wards were won by independent candidates.

Polling to 16 wards of Alwar, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bundi, Churu, Dholpur, Hanumangarh, Jaipur, Karauli and Srigangnagar was held on June 10.

The Congress won in Khairthal, Behror, Jahajpur, Indergarh, Sujangarh, Nohar, Shahpura and bagged one of the seats in Hindaun.

India: Local BSP leader shot dead in Shamli

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jun 12 (PTI) A local BSP leader was shot dead by unidentified men in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said Wednesday.

Shokat, 40, was returning to his village from Shamli on Tuesday night when motorcycle-borne men fatally shot him near Harar Fatehpur village, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Srivastava said.

He was a former BSP general secretary of Baghra area.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and the search for the accused is on, the officer added.

India: President rule in JK to be extended for 6 more months

New Delhi, Jun 12 (PTI) President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir will be extended for six more months beginning July 3 and the Union Cabinet Wednesday gave its nod in this effect, Union minister Prakash Javedkar said.

A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its approval for the extension of the central rule which has been continuing in Jammu and Kashmir since June 20, 2018.

"Yes, it has been decided," Javadekar told reporters when asked whether the Cabinet gave its nod to extend President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mumbai, Jun 12 (PTI) The alliance of opposition parties will contest the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls with full strength, aiming to dislodge the BJP-led government from power, NCP leader Nawab Malik said Wednesday.

Malik, chief spokesperson of the NCP, a key opposition party, said the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls have separate equations and added the anti-NDA parties will highlight the "failures" of the BJP-led government in the state ahead of the elections, due in September-October.

India: Eight-year-old girl gang-raped in MP

Singrauli, Jun 12 (PTI) An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two boys at a village in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Sarai police station, 60 kms from the district headquarters, on Tuesday and the two minor accused were detained Wednesday, police said.

India: Journalist Prashant Kanojia released from Lucknow jail

Lucknow, Jun 12 (PTI) Journalist Prashant Kanojia was released from a jail here on Wednesday, four days after his arrest for allegedly making objectionable comments against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on social media.

He was freed on bail on the Supreme Court's directive Tuesday to release him immediately.
