Indian Polls: Arunachal has 29 candidates with criminal records

Itanagar, Apr 9 (PTI) A report by an election watchdog has revealed that 29 of the 184 candidates contesting the April 11 Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh have criminal antecedents.

Nine of the 29 candidates belong to the Congress, the report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said.

India: RSS leader's PSO shot dead in Kishtwar

Jammu, Apr 9 (PTI) Suspected militants on Tuesday killed the personal security officer of an RSS leader by snatching his weapon in a hospital in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar town, police said.

The local RSS leader, identified as Chandrakanta, was injured in the attack that targeted him, officials said.

Chandrakanta had gone to a local hospital for a check-up, they said.

Modi is scared of debating me on corruption: Rahul

New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday if he was "scared" of debating with him on corruption and suggested that they could go "open book" for it.

Gandhi has been repeatedly daring Modi to debate with him on issues of national security, especially the Rafale fighter jets deal, asserting that when it happens, the truth will be out in the open.

Ausa (Maha), Apr 9 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday stepped up his attack on the Congress, saying had its leaders acted wisely, Pakistan would not have been created.

Addressing a poll rally here, Modi also appeared to be treading sensitive ground, by asking first-time voters to dedicate their vote to those who carried out the air strike in Balakot.

"Can your first vote be dedicated to those who carried out the air strike," Modi said, appealing to first-time voters.

India: High capacity fuse sets to save power cuts

Kanpur: In order to improve power supply, the KESCo has been installing 500 ampere capacity LT fuse sets. It is essentially for maintaining the uninterrupted electricity supply in the city areas. As many as 600 sets are to be fitted. Old sets with 300 ampere capacity will be changed forthwith. 

CSB Ambedkar, department officer, said fuse installation was underway. As the power demand surges in the summer, the consumers will not face power cut after installation of the strong fuse sets. 

India: Mirwaiz appears before NIA

New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) After avoiding the first two summons, moderate separatist leader and Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq on Monday appeared before the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a case related to terror funding, officials said.

The Mirwaiz, who was provided security upon his arrival at the Indira Gandhi airport, was accompanied by other separatist leaders, including Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Lone and Maulana Abbas Ansari.

Indian Polls: BJP launches manifesto

New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) Calling the BJP's manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls a "vision document", head of the party's manifesto committee Rajnath Singh on Monday said the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fully committed on nationalism and zero tolerance towards terrorism.

The BJP manifesto was released by Modi on Monday in the presence of the party's top brass.

"Our 'Sankalp Patra' is a vision document that lists the expectations of 130 crore Indians," Singh said.

India: NYAY (justice) at the core of Congress campaign: Rahul

New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the concept of "NYAY" is at the core of its campaign for the Lok Sabha polls and builds on the promises the party has made to the people.

The Congress on Sunday announced 'Ab Hoga Nyay' as its battle cry for the Lok Sabha polls and launched a campaign centred around the theme of 'justice', while alluding to the party's proposed minimum income scheme and the 'anyay' (injustice) "prevailing under the BJP rule".

Indian Polls: RJD releases manifesto, promises reservation

Patna, Apr 8 (PTI) The RJD on Monday released its manifesto, titled 'Pratibadhta Patra', promising reservation for SCs, STs, EBC and OBCs in proportion of their population in the private sector and the higher judiciary.

The ceiling - a 50 per cent cap - had been broken after giving 10 per cent quota to the weaker sections among the general category so the people belonging to these categories (SCs, STs, EBC and OBCs) should be given reservation on the basis of their population, party leader Tejashwi Yadav said while releasing the manifesto here.
