India: Rath Yatra: BJP moves HC against refusal of permission

Kolkata, Dec 7 (PTI) The BJP on Friday moved an appeal

before a division bench of the Calcutta High Court against refusal of permission for its Rath Yatra.

Granting leave to the BJP to file the appeal, a division bench comprising Justices B Somadder and A Mukherjee said it will hear the matter at 12.30 pm.

The bench directed BJP's lawyers to serve copy of the appeal to the West Bengal government and other respondents before the matter is taken up for hearing.

India: Gujujrat; Angadia couriers looted on state transport bus

Mehsana, Dec 7 (PTI) Unidentified robbers looted parcels of cash, gold and diamonds worth lakhs of rupees on a state transport bus on Mehsana-Ahmedabad highway in Gujarat Thursday night, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjita Vanzara said Friday that a complaint has been lodged with Langhnaj police station in Mehsana district and further probe was on.

India: 12 policemen injured in clash with BJP workers

Jalpaiguri (WB), Dec 7 (PTI) The police and BJP workers fought a pitched battle in a forested area of Jalpaguri district on Friday injuring 12 policemen, including an additional SP.

The addtional superintendent of police was seriously injured after a stone hit him in the eye, Jalpaiguri SP Amitabha Maiti said.

The incident occurred near Dhupjhora under Dhupguri police station when the BJP activists were going to a public meeting of senior party leaders in neighbouring Cooch Behar district.

India: Over 72 per cent cast their vote in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Dec 7 (PTI) Over 72 per cent of the 4.74 crore registered voters had cast their vote by 5 pm in Rajasthan where elections were held Friday for 199 of the 200 assembly seats.

Polling was set to end at 5 pm but officials said those already in the queue at the booths by then were being allowed to vote.

The voting percentage till this time was 72.37, according to the Election Commission website.

Polling began at 51,687 booths across the state began at 8 am and was largely peaceful, officials said.

Delhi teen allegedly raped, accused held

New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped in northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar area, police said Friday.

The accused, a 17-year-old, has been apprehended, officials said.

The girl alleged that the incident happened Wednesday, following which her family registered a complaint with police.

Officials said that further investigation in the case is currently on.

India: City's boxers enter semi-final round

KANPUR: City’s boxers have shown their sporting skills at the ongoing state-level senior boxing championship running in Murdabad. Their ascendancy continued in the game. They succeeded in qualifying the next semi-final round.

Lauding their efforts and capabilities the district boxing fraternity have wished them good luck and success. As many as seven boxers have gone into the next round, said secretary of district boxing association.

KANPUR: With the finalisation of date for famous Bitthoor Mahotsav in the meeting with the district magistrate it has been decided to approach the UP government for the five-day programme.

Cultural programmes, exhibitions and drama presentation are prominent features of the event to be held from December 18 to 22. For a successful organisation of the programme, various sub-committees have also been set up.

India: BJP, Swabhiman Sanghatana supporters clash in Kankavali

Mumbai, Dec 5 (PTI) Supporters of the Swabhiman Sanghatana, an NGO, and the BJP Wednesday clashed in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district, police said.

At least 40 supporters of the NGO, led by MLA Nitesh Rane, son of former Chief Minister and current MP Narayan Rane, the BJP were booked for the clashes, they said.

The clashes took place in the morning at Kankavali town when two students, who are also Swabhiman Sanghatana supporters, were allegedly beaten up BJP supporters, said an official.

india: UP BJP MP Savitribai Phule resigns from party

Lucknow, Dec 6 (PTI) BJP MP Savitribai Phule resigned from the party on Thursday, saying it is dividing society.

The MP from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, has long been critical of the party's leadership,

The Dalit leader said her objective was to get the Constitution implemented in letter and spirit.

"I have resigned from the party. But I will continue as a Lok Sabha member till the end of my tenure," she said in Lucknow.
