India: Four held for raping Rajasthani woman

Kumbakonam (TN), Dec 6 (PTI) Four men were Thursday arrestedfor allegedly raping a woman, who arrived here by train a few days ago to join a bank, police said.

The woman, who arrived from Jaipur on December 2 midnight, had taken an autorickshaw from the railway station to her hostel, but the driver reportedly dropped her midway, they said.

Two men, who had come that way took her to an isolated spot and allegedly raped her. Two others also allegedly sexually assaulted her later, police said.

India: Three of family held for rape and torture of 14-year-old

Indore (MP), Dec 6 (PTI) Indore police in Madhya Pradesh arrested three members of a family Thursday for allegedly torturing and raping a girl after telling her family that she could lead them to hidden treasure.

Ajay Sonane (23) was accused of raping and torturing the 14-year-old girl while his mother Sunita Sonane (40) and grand-mother Geeta Sonane (65) were accused of helping him, said inspector Neeta Derwal of Gandhi Nagar police station.

India: Journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra released from Odisha jail

Bhubaneswar, Dec 6 (PTI) Delhi-based journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra was Thursday released from the Odisha jail after he was granted bail by two courts in Konark and Bhubaneswar.

The freedom for Abhijit came a day after the Orissa High Court granted him bail yesterday. He was released from judicial custody after 44 days.

Abhijit was granted conditional bail by the Court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Konark in Puri district and the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM), Bhubaneswar, in Khurda district earlier in the day.

India: Cal HC says can't give permission for BJP rally

Kolkata, Dec 6 (PTI) The Calcutta High Court on Thursday said it cannot give permission at this stage for the BJP rally in Coochbehar, scheduled to be flagged off by party president Amit Shah on Friday, after the West Bengal government refused to allow the event on the grounds that it might cause communal tension.

KCA forms arbitration board

KANPUR: The Kanpur Cricket Association (KCA) has formed an arbitration board to sort out cases without the help of any other court of justice. Dinesh Katiyar, spokesperson of KCA said this decision got final approval at the association's executive committee.

The association’s charter allows the right to form such type of body through its executive committee. In case the petitioner does not satisfy with the Board’s decision, there is a way to approach the district court, he added.

Christian Michel sent to 5-day CBI custody by court in VVIP chopper case

New Delhi, Dec 5 (PTI) Christian Michel, the alleged middleman who has been chargesheeted in the Rs 3,600-crore AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal, was Wednesday produced before a Delhi court which allowed his five-day custodial interrogation by the CBI.

He will again be produced in the court on December 10.

Michel, who is a citizen of United Kingdom, was brought to India late Tuesday night following his extradition by the UAE in connection with the case.

India: Woman set ablaze by harassers dies in hospital

Lucknow, Dec 4 (PTI) A 35-year-old Uttar Pradesh woman succumbed to burn injuries Tuesday, days after she alleged being set ablaze by five men on resisting harassment by them, police said.

According to a complaint filed by the woman's mother, she was returning home on November 24 when the men attacked her in Shahjahanpur's Tilhar area.

The woman was taken to a hospital in Bareilly where she succumbed to injuries Tuesday.

The police said it has registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

India: VHP to observe Shaurya Diwas in Ayodhya on Dec 6

Ayodhya, Dec 5 (PTI) The VHP would observe Shaurya Diwas on December 6, the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition, and also gear up for programmes lined up on the occasion of Gita Jayanti on December 18 to garner support for the construction of a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

With the 2019 Lok Sabha elections round the corner, all eyes seem to be on the temple town as Thursday marks the 26th anniversary of the demolition.

India's heaviest satellite GSAT-11 launched successfully

Bengaluru, Dec 5 (PTI) India's heaviest satellite GSAT-11, that would boost broadband services in the country, was successfully launched by an Arianespace rocket from the French Guiana in the early hours of Wednesday, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said.

Blasting off from the Ariane Launch Complex at Kourou, a French territory located along the northeastern coast of South America at 02:07 am (IST), the Ariane-5 vehicle injected GSAT-11 into the orbit in a flawless flight lasting about 33 minutes.

India: Man booked for raping minor girl in Goa

Panaji, Dec 5 (PTI) A 50-year-old man has been booked for allegedly raping a minor girl in Goa, police said.

The accused, a Goa resident who has been working abroad, left India soon after committing the offence in October, Margao Police Inspector Kapil Nayak said on Tuesday.

The 14-year-old girl was raped repeatedly between October 15 and 20 by the accused residing in her neighbourhood at Sirlim village in South Goa district, he said.
