India: Naxal terrorist arrested, arms, ammunition seized in Bihar

Munger/Patna, Oct 14 (PTI) One naxalite has been arrested and a huge cache of arms and ammunition were seized following an encounter in Maniyara forest in Bihar, a senior police officer said on Monday.

The encounter took place deep inside the forest located along the borders of Munger and Lakhisarai districts, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Manu Maharaj told PTI-Bhasha over phone.

It began on Sunday afternoon and continued till evening, he said.

India: Koregaon Bhima case: HC refuses bail to three activists

Mumbai, Oct 15 (PTI) The Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused bail to civil liberties activists Sudha Bharadwaj, Arun Ferriera and Vernon Gonsalves, arrested for allegedly inciting caste-based violence at Koregaon Bhima in Pune and having links with Maoists.

Justice Sarang Kotwal rejected the bail pleas filed by the three activists.

The accused were initially placed under house arrest in August last year by the Pune Police in Maharashtra and were later taken into custody on October 26, after a sessions court in Pune rejected their bail pleas.

New Delhi, Oct 15 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Tuesday took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Nobel Prize winner Abhijit Banerjee's remarks that the Indian economy is on shaky ground, saying the PM should attend to work and have less "photo ops".

Indian-American Banerjee, who on Monday won the 2019 Nobel for Economics, has said Indian economy is on a shaky ground and the data currently available does not hold any assurance for the country's economic revival anytime soon.

India: Naxal terrorist killed in encounter with police in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Oct 15 (PTI) A Naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday, police said.

The skirmish took place around 9.30 am at a forest in Tulsi Dongri area when a team of the Special Task Force and District Reserve Groupwas out on a counter-insurgency exercise along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border, Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operation) Sundarraj P told PTI.

India: Newborn girl, who was buried alive in UP, critical

Bareilly (UP), Oct 15 (PTI) A newborn girl, who was admitted to the district hospital after she was found buried alive, is in a critical condition, doctors said on Tuesday.

The police have registered a case against unidentified persons but are still trying to trace her parents, Senior Superintendent of Police Shailesh Pandey said.

The infant was rescued last Thursday by a trader who had gone to the cremation ground to bury his daughter, who died minutes after being born prematurely.

Bareilly (UP), Oct 15 (PTI) A two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old man in a village here following which he was arrested, police said on Tuesday

On Monday evening, when toddler was playing outside her house, Yadaram Sahu lured her, saying he would buy eatables for her, Senior Superintendent of Police Shailendra Pandey said in a village here

When the family came to know that the accused had taken the girl with him, they reached his house where found the toddler bleeding, the SSP said

India: Man lynched on suspicion oftemple theft in Telangana

Hyderabad, Oct 15 (PTI): A 25-year-old man was allegedly lynched by a group of villagers on suspicion of committing a theft at a temple in Nizamabad district, police said on Tuesday.

The man, who works as a mason, was on Monday thrashed by the group after he was caught allegedly trying to steal from the place of worship, a senior police official told PTI.

The villagers later informed the police who got the man shifted to the government hospital in Nizamabad but he died without responding to treatment, the official said.

Kashmir: Hours after mobiles restored, SMS services blocked

Srinagar, Oct 15 (PTI) SMS services were withdrawn as a "precautionary measure" hours after the government restored post-paid mobile connections in Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

Mobile phone services for post-paid subscribers resumed in Kashmir after 72 days on Monday noon, but without any internet facilities. By about 5 pm, SMS services had been suspended too, dulling the euphoria of about 40 lakh subscribers delighted at the prospect of their phones coming back to life, officials said.

Bangladesh’s Largest Digital Device Expo Kicks Off In Dhaka

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Oct 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – The three-day “Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2019” kicked off in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Monday.

The exhibition is being held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC), also known as Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre, in Dhaka.

Organisers said, the exhibition is mainly highlighting the successful journey of 10 years of Digital Bangladesh.

India: Sugar refinery with high tech to come up in city

Kanpur: Country's first sugar refinery equipped with the modern-day high technique will start functioning in the city's acclaimed National Sugar Institute from the next year. The work on putting up its building has also been initiated.

Two kinds of techniques will be brought into use for refining the sugar. First, there is a process of ion exchange resins &  deep bed filter and secondly, there will be the use of active carbon and membrane filtration.
