Delhi, 13 Oct 2019, (UMMn): PM Narendra Modi's niece Damayanti Ben Modi got her purse snatched Saturday by two unidentified bike-borne thieves in North Delhi's Civil Lines.

As Damayanti arrived at Civil Lines from Old Delhi Railway Station, the robbers came and snatched her purse after she got down from the auto-rickshaw, police said.

IOK people suffer immensely as lockdown continues on 69th day

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (APP): In Indian occupied Kashmir, as the strict military lockdown imposed by the Indian government entered 69th running day, today, the people of Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region continue to suffer immensely.

India, China agree to tackle trade deficit at Modi-Xi summit

MAMALLAPURAM, India (Reuters) - India and China will set up a mechanism to tackle India’s galloping trade deficit with the world’s second-biggest economy, a top Indian diplomat said on Saturday, following summit talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping.

Xi, who is visiting India, and Modi held several hours of one-on-one talks in a southern seaside Indian town, during which they discussed a range of economic issues, including India’s $53 billion trade deficit with China in 2018/19, and ways to tackle it.

At least five injured in grenade attack in Kashmir's Srinagar amid India clampdown

SRINAGAR, India (Reuters) - At least five people were injured in a grenade attack in India-controlled Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar on Saturday, police said, the second such attack since India stripped the Himalayan region of its special status.

“Terrorists lobbed a grenade at HSH Street Srinagar,” Kashmir police said on Twitter. “All (injured) are stated to be stable. Area under cordon,” it said, adding that a search operation was underway.

Kashmir: Restrictions lifted in 99 pc areas in J-K: Govt claims

Srinagar, Oct 12 (PTI) Restrictions on movement of people have been lifted in "over 99 per cent" areas of Jammu and Kashmir, state government spokesperson Rohit Kansal said on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters here, he asserted that the curbs were necessary to prevent "externally-aided terrorists" from disturbing peace in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of abrogation of the state's special status under Article 370 in August.

He also said the cases of those who were detained, including political leaders, were being reviewed by the government for their release.

Chinese President Xi Jinping wraps up meet in India, leaves for Nepal

Chennai, Oct 12 (PTI) Chinese President Xi Jinping left for Nepal on Saturday by an Air China aircraft, concluding his second informal summit with Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi, which has signalled a recalibration of bilateral ties.

Xi, wrapped up his about 24-hour stay during which he visited Mamallapuram near here and held informal talks with the Prime Minster. Also, delegation level talks were held.

Kashmir: More than 200 people test positive for dengue

Jammu, Oct 12 (PTI) As many as 222 people have been tested positive for dengue in Jammu and Kashmir this year, a health department official said on Saturday, asserting that there is no need to panic as necessary measures are in place to deal with the vector-borne disease.

Last year, the total number of dengue patients in the state was 214, while no one has died due to the disease in the last four years, the official said.

At 75, Jammu district accounted for the maximum cases followed by Samba (73), Kathua (24) and Rajouri (22).

India: Officer suspended for eating chicken curry during school visit

Bhubaneswar, Oct 12 (PTI) An Education department officer in Odisha's Sundergarh district had been placed under suspension for eating chicken curry in a school while the children were served rice and dal only under mid-day-meal scheme, officials said on Saturday.

Sundergarh District Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan suspended Binay Prakash Soy, Block Education Officer (BEO), Bonai, after a video of the BEO eating chicken curry brought from outside alongside the school children went viral, the officials said.

India: Naxal terrorist killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Oct 11 (PTI) A naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Friday, the police said.

The skirmish took place in a forest near Tekmetla village under Usoor police station limits, a senior police official said.

A joint squad of 229th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force and local police had launched an anti- naxal operation in the interiors of Usoor, about 450 km from state capital Raipur, he said.

Indian army jawan killed in Pak shelling along LoC in Rajouri

Jammu, Oct 11 (PTI) An Army jawan was killed when Pakistani troops resorted to firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Friday, a defence spokesperson said.

Two jawans were also injured in the Pakistani shelling in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district, officials said.

"Today, the ceasefire violation took place in Nowshera sector from 5.50 am to 7.30 am," he said.
