India: 2 die in UP as motorcycle crashes into stray cows

Banda, Oct 12 (PTI) Two people were killed when the motorcycle they were riding hit some stray cows here, police said on Saturday.

Chunbadi Prajapati (35) and his brother-in-law Jalkadeen (38) were returning from a local market when the accident occurred at Khaurarha bypass on Friday evening, Station House Officer of Mataundh Police Station Shail Kumar Singh said.

"Both the motorcyclists fell on the road and sustained serious injuries. They were rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared them dead," he said.

India: Women will be exempted from odd-even scheme: Delhi CM

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) Women will be exempted from the odd-even road rationing scheme which is set to return in the national capital for the third time from November 4-15, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday.

Unlike previous occasions, privately owned CNG vehicles will this time not be exempted, he said.

"Women driving alone, cars having all women as occupants and women accompanied by children aged less than 12 years will be exempted," he said.

Dengue Fever Death Toll Climbs To 93 In Bangladesh

DHAKA, Oct 12 (NNN-BSS) – The Bangladeshi government has confirmed another 12 deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country, since Jan, to 93.

According to a report of the country’s Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), received Friday, the deaths include two in Apr, six in June, 34 in July, 47 in Aug and 4 in Sept.

Modi, Xi look to patch up India-China ties

India: Xi Jinping arrives to grand welcome in Chennai airport

Chennai, Oct 11 (PTI) Chinese President Xi Jinping was treated to Tamil cultural performances by folk dancers and Bharatanatyam artistes while scores of children greeted him by waving Indian and Chinese flags as he arrived here on Friday.

On his arrival at the airport here, a red carpet welcome was accorded to Xi who was received by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minsiter O Panneerselvam and Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal.

India: Curfew relaxed briefly in Rajasthan's Malpura

Jaipur, Oct 11 (PTI) Curfew was relaxed for two hours on Friday in Malpura town of Rajasthan's Tonk district where it was imposed three days ago over communal tensions following pelting of stones at a Dussehra procession.

The restrictions were imposed on Wednesday and mobile internet services were also snapped to prevent rumour-mongering.

"The curfew was relaxed from 0830 to 1030 hrs. The situation in the town is under control," Malpura Circle Officer Jai Singh said on Friday.

India: Akhara Parishad comes out in support of rape accused Chinmayanand

Haridwar, Oct 10 (PTI) Apex body of ascetics Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad came out in support of former Union minister Chinmayanand on Thursday saying he had been framed in the sexual harassment case.

At a meeting of the parishad which began on Thursday to elect its working committee, Mahanth Narendra Giri, its president, said the parishad supports Chinmayanand.

"Sexual harassment charges against Chinmayanand are false. It is a conspiracy. The parishad supports him," he said.

India: 'NathuRam Raj' in Uttar Pradesh: Akhilesh

Jhansi (UP), Oct 10 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav slammed the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, saying there is not "Ram Raj" but "Nathuram Raj" in the state, a day after he visited the family of a youth killed in a police encounter over alleged illegal sand mining.

"Besides mob lynching, now there is also police lynching which can be seen here," the SP chief told newspersons.
