India: Rajeev Kumar's anticipatory bail plea rejected

Kolkata, Sep 21 (PTI) The Alipore District and Sessions court on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar, who is evading CBI summons in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam case.

Kumar had filed the bail plea on Friday, a day after a city court had said that the CBI did not need a warrant to arrest him in the Saradha case.

Kumar, who is currently the ADG of the CID, had failed to get a relief from the Barasat district and sessions court on his anticipatory bail application in the case.

Mongolian President visits Mahabodhi temple in India

Gaya (Bihar), Sep 21 (PTI) Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga on Saturday visited the Mahabodhi temple at Bodh Gaya and offered prayers under the tree where Lord Buddha had attained enlightenment.

Khaltmaagiin was received at the Gaya International Airport by Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sharwan Kumar, official sources said.

From the airport, the cavalcade of the President and 72 members of his delegation drove straight to the Mahabodhi Temple amid tight security.

India: Teen allegedly raped in Mathura hospital in UP

Mathura (UP), Sep 21 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a compounder in a hospital here, police said on Saturday.

An FIR was filed by her brother on Thursday night at the Highway police station. No action could (be) taken against the accused, Shyam Sundar, as the statement of the girl is yet to be recorded. She has been shifted to a hospital in Jaipur, Inspector S R Gautam said.

Two doctors, Pankaj and Gaurav, have also been booked. The investigation would proceed when her statement is recorded, police said.

Prime minister leaves for US on completion of Saudi visit

ISLAMABAD, Sep 21 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Saturday left for the United States (US) after completing his official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The prime minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Finance Advisor Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Special Assistant Zulfiqar Bukhari, a PM Office statement said.

During the visit, the prime minister would address the United Nations General Assembly, besides meeting with the US leadership and other engagements.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan likely to meet Trump on Sep 23

Islamabad, Sep 20 (PTI) Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to meet US President Donald Trump in New York on September 23 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, according to a media report.

Pakistani daily Dawn quoting diplomatic sources said this could be the first of the two meetings Prime Minister Khan is expected to have with President Trump during the UNGA session.

The Khan-Trump meeting will take place a day after Trump along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address more than 50,000 Indian-Americans at the "Howdy Modi!" mega event in Houston.

India: 15-year-old girl raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Sep 20 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Harmada area here after he gave her some food laced with intoxicants, police said on Friday.

SHO of Harmada police station Ramesh Saini said the girl's mother complained to the police about the incident on the basis of which a case was registered against the accused, Arjun Kumar.

Bengaluru, Sep 20 (PTI) Hopes of re-establishing contact with India's moon mission Chandrayaan-2's lander seems to be all but over with its 14-day mission life set to end and the Lunar night falling early Saturday.

Lander Vikram, with rover Pragyan housed inside it, lost communication with the ground station on September 7 during its final descent, just 2.1 kms above the lunar surface, minutes before the planned touch-down on the Moon.

India: Rape accused BJP leader Chinmayanand says sorry for his behaviour

Shahjahanpur (UP), Sep 20 (PTI) BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand, accused of rape by a law student, was on Friday arrested and sent to 14 days' judicial custody, and has apparently told the police he was sorry for his behaviour.

But the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case also arrested three other men - all charged with trying to extort money from the former Union minister, and named an unidentified woman as a suspect in the same case.

India: Karnataka govt will collapse any time, says former CM

Bengaluru, Sep 20 (PTI) JD(S) leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday predicted that the B S Yediyurappa-led BJP government "may collapse any time."

"If I have to make a political prediction... I'm not an astrologer for that, but looking at the way in which this government is going, looking at its conduct this government may collapse any time...lets wait and see," he told reporters in Channapatna.

Meanwhile, reacting to statements predicting mid-term polls, Minister and senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa ruled out any possibility of such polls.
