India: Bank unions threaten 2-day strike later this month

Chandigarh/Dharamshala, Sep 12 (PTI) Four bank employee unions have given a call for a two-day strike from the midnight of September 25 and an indefinite stir from the second week of November to protest against the mega-merger of 10 nationalised banks, a union leader said on Thursday.

The unions are also pressing for expeditious wage revision, the introduction of the five-day week and other demands.

India: BJP has offered Sena 106 seats in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Sep 12 (PTI) The BJP has offered 106 seats to its main alliance partner Shiv Sena for the next month's Maharashtra Assembly polls, but the latter is not likely to accept less than 120 seats, a source said on Thursday.

The seat-sharing talks between the two parties are likely to conclude in a day or two, a BJP source said here.

The Assembly has a total of 288 seats. Last time the two parties had fought the elections separately.

India: UP govt reconsidering traffic penalties

Lucknow, Sep 12 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government is reconsidering the new penalties for breaking traffic rules and may join the growing band of states that find the fines listed in the amended Motor Vehicles Act too high.

"In the interest of the people of Uttar Pradesh, the government is reconsidering what and how it should be done," state Transport Minister Ashok Kataria said Thursday.

"We will soon take a decision and come out with the rates of penalty," the minister said.

Iran’s UN Envoy Says No Talks With U.S. Unless Sanctions Removed

TEHRAN, Sept 12 (NNN-IRNA) – Iran’s envoy to the United Nations, Majid Takht-e Ravanchi, said, negotiations with the United States are unlikely, unless the latter decides to remove anti-Iran sanctions, Press TV reported.

“There is no room for talks, as long as the U.S. administration’s economic terrorism and cruel sanctions against the Iranian people are in place,” Takht-e Ravanchi was quoted as saying.

PM set to give policy statement on Kashmir on Friday : FO

ISLAMABAD, Sep 12 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan will give a policy statement regarding the
situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir during his upcoming visit to Azad Kashmir on Friday, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.

“The policy statement is part of Pakistan’s continued struggle for the Kashmir cause,” Foreign Office spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said at a weekly media briefing.

He said several other steps were also under consideration regarding the IOJK and would be shared as the situation unfolded.

Taliban want US deal, but some in bigger hurry than others

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Afghanistan’s Taliban leaders agreed they wanted a deal with the United States, but some were in more of a hurry than others.

Taliban negotiators were at odds with their Council of Leaders, or shura, about whether to travel to Camp David even before President Donald Trump abruptly canceled the high-stakes meeting planned for last weekend .

According to Taliban officials familiar with the discussions, the shura opposed the trip to Camp David and chastised the negotiators who were eager to attend.

Pakistan acknowledges over 50 countries joining its call in support of Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD, Sep 11 (APP): Pakistan has expressed gratitude to over 50 countries for becoming part of its Joint Statement in support of the people of Kashmir, reinforcing serious concerns of the international community about the unprecedented restrictions, continued curfew and curtailment of fundamental rights of Kashmiris.

On behalf of over 50 states, Pakistan had presented Joint Statement to the UN Human Rights Council on Tuesday regarding the worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

One Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 11: A Kashmiri was killed in an alleged gunfight between with Indian security forces and Kashmiri separatist in Sopore of Baramulla districts of Indian administered Kashmir, an Indian official said.

Two police personnel were injured in a grenade blast at the encounter site and are out of danger.

India: 2 booked for 'objectionable' remarks against Modi

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Sep 11 (PTI) Two people have been booked in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district for posting "objectionable comments" on social media against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, police said on Wednesday.

Acting on the complaint of one Shivam Meghali, police booked Bijender Saini and Prince Ashok Acharya on Tuesday under the Information Technology Act, Station House Officer Anil Kaparvan said.
