India: ED serves a show cause notice to Amnesty International

New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) Human rights watchdog Amnesty International India on Tuesday denied charges of violating the foreign exchange law after it was recently served with a show cause notice by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

"Amnesty International India acknowledges that Amnesty International India Private Limited has received a show cause notice from the Enforcement Directorate."

India: ISRO racing against time to salvage lander-rover

Bengaluru, Sept 10 (PTI) ISRO is racing against time to spring 'Vikram' back to life and salvage the lander-rover part of the Chandrayaan-2 mission.

The lander Vikram, with rover 'Pragyan' tucked inside it, lost communication with the ground-stations during its final descent, just 2.1 kms above the lunar surface, minutes before the planned soft-landing in the early hours of Saturday.

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) said on Sunday Vikram had a "hard-landing".

China, India Vow To Deepen Cooperation At 6th Strategic Economic Dialogue Held In India

NEW DELHI, Sept 10 (NNN-PTI) – The Sixth China-India Strategic Economic Dialogue, and the China-India Economic Cooperation Forum, were held here on Monday, with both sides exchanging views on macroeconomic policies and reaching consensus in pragmatic cooperation.

During the dialogue, China and India reviewed progress of the working groups and exchanged views on the macroeconomic situation and bilateral pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.

India: Foreign student charges IIT teacher of sexual harassment

KANPUR: A foreign student who was taking her course in civil engineering under a foreign exchange programme at IIT here, complained of sexual harassment.

When the student informed her country's embassy the matter started moving around. She initially approached the institute's women cell for registering her complaint. When her voice was not heard she made a call to the embassy. It is then the institute's officials responded.

Curfew, strict curbs to prevent Muharram processions

ISLAMABAD, Sep 9 (APP): In occupied Kashmir, curfew and restrictions, imposed since August 5, have been further intensified to prevent Muharram processions across the territory.

The commercial hub of Lal Chowk and adjoining areas were completely sealed by the police and Central Reserve Police Force with concertina wires at all entry points and two major arterial stretches, MA Road and Residency Road, to disallow public movement, Kashmir Media Service reported.

Indian forces attack on Ashura devotees worst example of terrorism: Firdous

ISLAMABAD, Sep 9 (APP): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Monday said the attack on Imam Hussain’s devotees by occupied forces was the worst example of Indian state terrorism.

The Indian violence and arrests of unarmed Kashmiri devotees mourning during the Ashura procession reminded of the brutalities unleashed by Yazid in Karbala which was strongly condemnable, she said.
She stated this in a message received here through her twitter handler.

India: Former UP CM Kalyan Singh rejoins BJP

Lucknow, Sep 9 (PTI) After serving a full five-year term as Rajasthan governor, former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh on Monday rejoined the BJP at the party office here in presence of senior leaders of the state unit.

The 87-year-old leader took the membership of the saffron party in the presence of UP BJP chief Swatantradev Singh.

His son Rajveer Singh, Lok Sabha MP from Etah, and grandson Sandeep Singh, minister of state for finance, were also present at the party office.

Kalyan Sigh's tenure as Rajasthan governor ended on September 3.

'Vikram' lander tilts after hard hit, but unbroken: ISRO

Chennai, Sep 9 (PTI) The 'Vikram' lander lies on the lunar surface as a single piece, unbroken and it is in a tilted position following a hard landing while efforts to re-establish link with the probe were on, an ISRO official said on Monday.

Vikram, which encases rover 'Pragyan' went out of contact during its final descent, when it was just 2.1 km above the lunar surface, in the early hours of September 7.
