India: 4.9-magnitude quake hits Chenab Valley in J-K

Bhaderwah/Jammu, Sep 8 (PTI) A 4.9-magnitude earthquake hit Doda and Kishtwar districts of Chenab Valley region in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said.

There was no immediate report of any casualty or damage to property from anywhere, Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Mumtaz Ahmed said.

The quake occurred around 8.04 am and lasted for a few seconds, causing panic among people who rushed out of their homes in Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar, the officials said.

India: Centre will not touch Article 371: Amit Shah

Guwahati, Sept 8 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday asserted that the Centre will not touch Article 371 which grants special provisions to the North East.

Article 370 was clearly temporary in nature but Article 371 is about special provisions in the North East and there is a vast difference between the two, Shah said while addressing the 68th plenary session of the North East Council here.

Indian Govt mum after 'ruining economy': Priyanka Gandhi

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday said the Modi government is mum after "ruining the economy" and alleged that it is trying to hide the grim situation in the country.

Her attack came as the Modi government completed 100 days in office in its second term.

"The government is mum after ruining the economy. The companies are in danger, while trade is in doldrums," Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: Crashed landed Vikram located on Lunar surface: ISRO chief

Bengaluru, Sep 8 (PTI) The Chandrayaan-2s Vikram module has been located on the Lunar surface and it must have been a hard-landing, ISRO chairman K Sivan said on Sunday, in an admission that the planned soft-landing wasnt successful.

It must have been a hard-landing, Sivan told PTI.

India: Zila panchayat official booked for rape in UP

Banda, Sep 8 (PTI) An official of the Chitrakoot district panchayat office here has been booked on the charge of rape, police said on Sunday.

Karwi police station SHO Anil Kumar Singh said, "A 23-year-old woman cooked food at the house of Surendra Singh, apar mukhya adhikari (AMA) of the zila panchayat. She has registered a case against him, alleging that the official raped her and is pressuring her to go for an abortion."

The SHO said the case was registered on Saturday.

People defy curfew, hold anti-India demos in IOK

ISLAMABAD, Sep 7 (APP): In occupied Kashmir, hundreds of people defying curfew and other restrictions held demonstrations in central, north and south Kashmir on Friday against the Indian occupation and repeal of special status of the territory by Narendra Modi-led communal Indian government.

According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), soon after Juma congregational prayers, people flouting curfew and other restrictions took to the streets in Srinagar, Sopore, Hajin, Islamabad, Pulwama, Shopian and other areas of the occupied territory.

Qureshi urges EU to speak out for upholding fundamental rights in IoK

The foreign minister noted that India’s illegal and unilateral actions not only contravened international law, they had caused human suffering, shrunk democratic space and clamped down on fundamental rights and freedoms, said a Foreign Office statement issued Friday night.

India: Priyanka slams govt plans for '100 days celebration'
