India: Petition in Bihar court against intellectuals who wrote to PM on hate crimes

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Jul 27 (PTI) A petition was filed in a Bihar court on Saturday against 49 eminent citizens, who had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on lynching of minorities and hate crimes, seeking slapping of sedition and other charges.

The petition was filed by an advocate before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate under different sections of the Indian Penal Code, relating to sedition, imputations and assertions prejudicial to national-integration and hurting religious feelings.

India: Centre rushes 10,000 troops to Kashmir

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The Centre has ordered rushing of about 10,000 central forces personnel to the Kashmir valley in order to strengthen counter-insurgency operations and law and order duties there, officials said Saturday.

They said the Union home ministry has ordered the deployment of 100 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) on July 25 on an "immediate" basis.

Officials said that 100 more companies are expected to be sent to the valley.

Why Delhi still not clean, HC asks MCDs

New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the municipal bodies why the city was still not clean despite their claims that they are making all efforts to keep the national capital's streets and colonies free of garbage and other waste.

"Why is Delhi still not clean," a bench of Justices G S Sistani and Jyoti Singh asked the three municipal corporations and directed them to file affidavits indicating how they intend to keep the city clean and also the number of safai karamchaaris, supervisors and senior officers in each zone along with their respective roles.

India: Minor raped by four men in Mathura, UP

Mathura, Jul 26 (PTI) A minor was raped allegedly by four men in a village here, police said on Friday.

On July 20, the girl fell unconscious after consuming prasad offered by Rahul, Bablu, Dinkush and Hemant, SP (Rural) Aditya Kumar Shukla said.

The four men then took her to a deserted place and allegedly raped her, he said.

India: Body of constable found in UP canal; murdered suspected

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jul 27 (PTI) The body of a 32-year-old police constable was found in a canal in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, an official said on Saturday.

The constable, Umesh Chowhan, was found dead in Purvi canal near Mundet village on Friday evening, they said.

According to Circle Officer Vinay Gautam, it is being suspected that Chowhan's was killed and the his body was dumped in the canal by the assailants.

India: 6-yr-old abducted and raped in UP, accused held

Aligarh (UP), Jul 27 (PTI) A six-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a man in a village here, police said on Saturday.

The girl was sleeping with her family at her house in Palimuqeempur village on Wednesday night when the accused, Bhagwan Singh, abducted and raped her, police said.

The accused was caught with the help of the villagers and handed over to the police, SSP Akash Kulhary said.

Singh has been sent to jail and the girl is undergoing treatment at Jawarharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital here, the SSP said.

US approves $125 mln technical support program for Pakistan’s F-16s fleet

ISLAMABAD, Jul 27 (APP): The US State Department announced an approval of $125 million for Pakistan to provide technical support to its fleet of F-16 aircraft.

“The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Pakistan for Technical Security Team (TST) in continued support of the F-16 program for an estimated cost of $125 million,” said a statement by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency(DSCA) of the United States issued on Friday.

India: Electrocution led to ruckus in city' s Talaq Mahal area

Kanpur: A shopkeeper and one ex-gang man of the power department were electrocuted near Talaq Mahal here on Friday late night. The flow of electric current was so powerful that the man pulled on to the cable box.

The area people were shocked to learn of his death and created a ruckus. The police and the PAC reached on the spot. The police got the dead body into possession after giving assurance of compensation.

In the meantime, the area people took the power sub-station team into hostage and overturned the official jeep.

U.S. working closely with Pakistan on recovery of hostages: State Department

ISLAMABAD, Jul 26 (APP): The United States is working closely with Pakistan on recovery of American hostages, U.S State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus has said.

“We are, of course, working closely with the Pakistanis on recovering them,” the State Department spokesperson said at a press briefing held Thursday in Washington D.C., when sought update on the ‘good news about U.S hostages’ shared by Prime Minister Imran Khan with President Donald Trump in their recent meeting.

India: BJP CM of Uttarakhand says cow only animal that exhales oxygen

Dehradun, Jul 26 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has kicked up a row by claiming that cow is the only animal which inhales and exhales oxygen, and has asserted breathing problems can be cured by massaging it.

A video went viral on Thursday showing Rawat extolling the medicinal properties of cow milk and urine at a function here.

In the video, he said cows not only inhale oxygen but also exhale it.
