Thousands of tourists flock to hilly areas to avoid hot weather during summer vacations

ISLAMABAD, Jul 12 (APP): With summer vacations continue, a large number of tourists from across the country have been flocking hilly spots in the country such as Naran and Murree to spend their vacation in pleasant weather.

The tourists from plain areas of the country have thronged to scenic hilly resorts and lush green valleys in northern parts including Naran and Kaghan valleys of Manshera district and Murree to enjoy summer holidays with children.

India prepares to land rover on moon in global space race

NEW DELHI (AP) — India is looking to take a giant leap in its space program and solidify its place among the world’s spacefaring nations with its second unmanned mission to the moon, this one aimed at landing a rover near the unexplored south pole.

The Indian Space Research Organization plans to launch a spacecraft using homegrown technology on Monday, and it is scheduled to touch down on the moon Sept. 6 or 7. The $141 million Chandrayaan-2 mission will analyze minerals, map the moon’s surface and search for water.

India: Defunct signal system in city areas irks ADG

Kanpur: A sum of Rs 26400 was collected in vehicle checking drive conducted under the supervision of ADG, Police at various places here on Thursday. 

The high-ranking police officer was making all efforts to bring improvements in the city's traffic system. Showing concern at defunct signal lights on the city's  busy crossings, he directed his subordinates to take necessary steps.

The departments concerned were needed to be made aware of the flaws. He inspected the condition of signal lights at Baradevi, Bara Chauraha, Phoolbagh, Moti Jheel, Juhi and other places.

Tournament favourites men in blue crashed out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after losing to New Zealand in the semi-final on Wednesday by 18 runs.

The legendary singer, 89, who is an avid cricket follower, took to Twitter to support Dhoni, whose future is the subject of swirling speculation after what is being considered his last assignment in national colours.

India: Car rams into men doing roadside yoga, kills six

Jaipur, Jul 11 (PTI) A speeding car rammed into a group of people doing yoga by the roadside in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district Thursday morning, killing six men, police said.

The accident occurred on Kumher-Dhanwada state highway early morning when the car driver lost control over the vehicle.

The group was taking a morning walk and stopped on the way for a yoga session, SHO Kumher police station Raghbeer Singh said.

Four men died on the spot while two succumbed to the injuries later, Singh said.

NIA makes first attachment of separatist property in Kashmir

New Delhi, Jul 10; GANASHAKTI: The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday attached hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Asiya Andrabi's house on the outskirts of Srinagar city under the stringent UAPA anti-terror law, officials said here.

The attachment order, the first by NIA against any separatist from Kashmir Valley, was pasted outside the residence of Andrabi, the chief of the banned Dukhtaran-E-Millat group, at 90 Feet Road in Soura area.

Indian Minister wants couples with more than 2 children stripped of right to vote

Patna, July 11; GANASHAKTI: Union minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday expressed alarm over the "population explosion" in the country since Independence and favoured disenfranchisement of those who sired more than two children.

The BJP leader from Bihar, known for making controversial remarks, shared a graphic on his official Twitter handle on World Population Day which showed that India's population grew by a staggering 366 per cent between 1947 and 2019 as against only 113 per cent rise in sparsely populated US.

India: Yechury questions gov intentions in targeting senior advocates

New Delhi, Jul 11; GANASHAKTI:  CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury Thursday accused the government of "targeting" former additional solicitor general Indira Jaising and her husband Anand Grover hours after the CBI began raids at their residences and offices.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is carrying out searches at Jaising's residence and offices of Lawyers Collective, an NGO run by Grover, a noted lawyer, who has been booked by the agency for alleged FCRA violations in receiving foreign aid.

Ayodhya dispute: SC seeks status on mediation within a week

New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a fresh status report on the ongoing mediation proceedings in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Ayodhya land dispute case within a week and made it clear that if the vexatious issue was not resolved amicably, it would hear the matter on a day-to-day basis from July 25.

Kashmir a dispute between India, Pakistan; should be resolved through dialogue: Farooq

Srinagar, Jul 11 (PTI) National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah Thursday said Kashmir is a "dispute" between India and Pakistan which needs to be resolved through dialogue.

Abdullah, the MP from Srinagar, said nothing would be achieved through military might.
