India: 10,000 people rendered homeless in Tripura flood

Agartala, Jul 14 (PTI) At least 10,000 people of two districts of Tripura were rendered homeless and forced to take shelter in relief camps following floods caused by incessant rain for the last two days, officials of the state revenue department said Sunday.

State Project Officer of Disaster Management, Sarat Das, said personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and secureity forces of the state rescued a number of stranded people from Khowai and West Tripura districts.

Pakistan, India agree on '80 per cent and beyond' on Kartarpur draft agreement

Lahore, Jul 14 (PTI) Pakistan and India agreed "80 per cent and beyond" on the draft agreement and operationalisation of the landmark Kartarpur corridor, a senior Pakistani official said Sunday after a marathon meeting between the officials of the two countries in Wagah.

India aborts moon mission launch, citing technical glitch

SRIHARIKOTA, India (AP) — India aborted the launch on Monday of a spacecraft intended to land on the far side of the moon less than an hour before liftoff.

The Chandrayaan-2 mission was called off when a “technical snag” was observed in the 640-ton, 14-story rocket launcher, Indian Space Research Organization spokesman B.R. Guruprasad said.

The countdown abruptly stopped at T-56 minutes, 24 seconds, and Guruprasad said that the agency would announce a revised launch date soon.

China Overseas Holding built modern industrial park in Gwadar Port Free Zone

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP): The China Overseas Ports Holding Ltd has invested nearly US $ 250 million and built a 25-acre modern industrial park in Gwadar port free zone.

The free zone is equipped with roads, water pipes, electricity, communications, security fence and waste disposal facilities, according to a report of China.org.cn here on Sunday.

Positive headway as consensus on 80 pc Kartarpur Corridor issues reached

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP): The second round of talks between India and Pakistan regarding Kartarpur Corridor for Sikh pilgrims was held here Sunday what Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said concluded with a positive development as both the sides reached consensus on 80 percent of the issues.

Talking to media at Wagah where the two delegations met, Dr Faisal, also Director General South Asia of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said another round of talks would require to sort out rest of the issues.

India's space organization to launch moon mission

NEW DELHI, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said on Sunday that it was all set to launch second lunar mission Chandrayaan-2.

The heavy-lift rocket GSLV-Mark-3 carrying Chandrayaan-2 will be launched from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, off the Bay of Bengal coast in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, at 2:51 a.m. local time on Monday.

New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI) Congress accused the BJP government of complete insensitivity and apathy towards children safety Saturday and said the Supreme Court has been forced to take suo motu notice of increasing child rape cases in the country.

Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala alleged that the BJP government's 'Beti Bachao' campaign is merely a lip service as it spends only "five paisa per girl child in the country."

India: Navjot Singh Sidhu resigns as Punjab Cabinet Minister

Chandigarh, Jul 14 (PTI) Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who has been at loggerheads with Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and was stripped off key portfolios in the cabinet reshuffle in June, has resigned from the state cabinet.

The 55-year-old Sidhu took to Twitter on Sunday, making public his resignation letter, which was sent just four days after his portfolio was changed.

The resignation letter dated June 10 was addressed to Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Pakistan, Afghanistan resume transit treaty negotiations

Islamabad, Jul 13 (PTI) Pakistan and Afghanistan have resumed the transit treaty negotiations, which collapsed in 2015 after Kabul insisted on including India in the talks, according to a media report.

Pakistan's exports to Afghanistan, which was at its peak at USD 2.4 billion in 2010-11, continued to fall and reached USD 1.3 billion in 2018-19 after the talks between the two sides broke down.
