India: Zaira Wasim announces 'disassociation' from films

Srinagar, Jun 30 (PTI) National Award-winning actor Zaira Wasim on Sunday announced her "disassociation" from the field of acting, saying she was not happy with the line of work as it interfered with her faith and religion.

In a detailed post on her Facebook page, which she later shared across all social media platforms, the Kashmiri-born "Dangal" fame star said she realised "though I may fit here perfectly, I do not belong here".

India: Man, his son held for raping and killing two sisters

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Jun 30 (PTI) A man and his son, who were absconding since 2014, were arrested for allegedly raping and killing two sisters in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Sunday.

Inam and his son Isar were hiding at a village in Ambala in Haryana and were arrested on Saturday, Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari said.

The two were carrying rewards of Rs 20,000 each on their arrest, he said.

India: German woman goes missing in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuam, Jun 30 (PTI) A German woman, who had come here in March, has gone missing from here, police said Sunday.

The foreigner, in her 30s, is identified as Liza, they said.

A senior police source told PTI that they received a complaint in this regard last week and an investigation was on.

"Police have received a letter from the German Consulate that she is missing. A probe has begun. She came here in March," sources said.

India: Isolated places in Uttar Pradesh witness light showers

Lucknow, Jun 30 (PTI) Isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh witnessed light to moderate rain or thunderstorm on Sunday, while some parts in the western region saw light showers, bringing people some relief from the heat wave sweeping the state.

The Meteorological (Met) Department office here said Barabanki received 6 cm rainfall, followed by Karadharighat with 5 cm, Nawabganj 4 cm, Kaiserganj 3 cm, 2 cm each in Katerniaghat and Lucknow, and 1 cm each in Palliakalan, Mahrajganj and Sahswan.

India: Peace rally held in J-K's Kishtwar

Jammu, Jun 30 (PTI) A peace rally was held in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Sunday, with participants raising slogans that called for maintaining communal harmony.

The rally was organised by the Army and the district administration.

District development commissioner, Angrez Singh Rana; commander of 9 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Brigadier Vikram Bhan; and SSP Kishtwar, Shakti Kumar Pathak, flagged off the rally from Chowgan Ground, an official spokesperson said.

India: CPI asks Centre to spell out its plan of action in J&K

Bhubaneswar, Jun 30 (PTI) Asserting that the Jammu and Kashmir issue was not just related to law and order or security, the Communist Party of India (CPI) asked the NDA government at the Centre on Sunday to spell out what exactly it wanted to do in that state.

CPI national secretary D Raja also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of "forcing" the regional parties to toe its line and claimed that the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha was "compelled" to support the saffron party.

India: Yogi warns officials against stray cattle menace

Moradabad (UP), Jun 30 (PTI) Cattle should not be seen roaming the streets unsupervised, nor in the fields, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warned state officials on Sunday.

Adityanath said proper arrangements should be made for cattle, according to an official release here.

Reviewing the development programs in Moradabad division, Adityanath said benefits of central and state schemes should be passed on to the public and any kind of corruption will attract strong action.

India: SpiceJet plane overshoots runway on landing

Surat, Jun 30 (PTI) A SpiceJet plane Sunday overshot the runway while landing at the Surat Airport, although none of the passengers and crew members on board were hurt in the incident, an airport official said.

The incident, which occurred around 8.15 pm, was a result of heavy rain and wind, the official said.

"A SpiceJet flight from Bhopal to Surat overshot runway at the airport here due to heavy rainfall and wind. All the 43 passengers and four crew members are safe and they are being handled by the SpiceJet officials," Surat airport director S K Panigrahi said.

India: SC dismisses PIL to earmark PoK and Gilgit as LS seats

New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a PIL seeking a direction to the Centre to earmark and declare Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit as parliamentary seats.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on former RAW official Ram Kumar Yadav for filing the petition and termed it "legally untenable".

India: 35 dead as bus falls into gorge in J&K

Jammu, Jul 1 (PTI) At least 35 people died and over a dozen were injured when an overcrowded bus skidded off a hilly road and fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Monday morning, officials said.

The minibus, which was on its way from Keshwan to Kishtwar, skidded off the Keshwan-Thakrai road and rolled down into the deep gorge around 7.30 am, officials said.
