India: Another BJP leader attacks municipal officer in MP

Satna (MP), Jun 28 (PTI) A BJP leader and his supporters allegedly attacked the chief municipal officer of a civic body in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh Friday, leaving him seriously injured, just two days after party MLA Akash Vijayvargiya was arrested for assaulting an official with a cricket bat.

Ramnagar Nagar Panchayat president Sushil Patel and his supporters allegedly attacked the civic body's chief municipal officer D Soni and a few corporators, police said.

India: Three-year-old raped by maternal uncle

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her maternal uncle in outer Delhi's Paschim Vihar, following which the accused was arrested, police said Friday.

They said the incident took place four days ago.

According to the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), the incident happened when the girl was playing with the accused's six-year-old daughter outside his house.

India: Spate of resignations by Cong office-bearers

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) Several office-bearers of the Congress, including its general secretary in charge of Madhya Pradesh Dipak Babaria and Goa unit chief Girish Chodankar, resigned on Friday, after MP Vivek Tankha quit as the chairman of the party's legal and human rights cell and urged others to follow suit to give a free hand to Rahul Gandhi to restructure the party at all levels.

Both Babaria and Chodankar took the responsibility for the Lok Sabha poll debacle of the party in their respective states.

India: Cong responsible for J&K state of affairs: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) Home Minister Amit Shah Friday accused the Congress of terrorism in Kashmir and responsible for the state's current situation, alleging that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru's decisions were behind India losing one-third of its territory to Pakistan.

He was replying to a debate in the Lok Sabha on the resolution to extend President's rule in Jammu and Kashmir for another six months from July 3.

Shah alleged that the policies of previous Congress governments widened the wedge between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the country.

Pakistan rejects biased assertions of US Religious Freedom Report

ISLAMABAD, Jun 28 (APP): Pakistan on Friday rejected a report of the U.S. Department of State on International Religious Freedom and said the report’s segment on Pakistan was a compendium of unsubstantiated and biased assertions.

As a matter of principle, Pakistan does not support such national reports making observations on the internal affairs of sovereign States. Pakistan, therefore, rejects these observations, the Foreign Office in a statement issued here said.

US, Taliban to open Doha talks in fresh bid to end war

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A fresh round of talks between the U.S. and the Taliban is to begin in Qatar Saturday, just days after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington is hoping for an Afghan peace agreement before Sept. 1.

Suhail Shaheen, spokesman for the Taliban’s political office in Doha, told The Associated Press that the Taliban’s negotiating team was set to open talks with U.S. peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad. He has been in the region for several weeks meeting a legion of regional and Afghan officials, including Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

India: NN told to remove dairy stalls from city areas

Kanpur: Taking stern step against the dairy stalls functioning in the city's various areas, the Kanpur Municipal Corporation in compliance with the CM's order has asked the help of the DM and the SSP for providing one Magistrate and one company PAC in removal of the menace. The Nagar Ayukt in his request has urged that the police and the magistrate will be required for three months. 

In his meeting held at Lucknow on June 3, this year the Chief Minister has directed the municipal commissioner to remove the dairies from the city's side. 

Oppn accuses minister of involvement in 'Rs 342 cr land scam'

Mumbai, Jun 27; GANASHAKTI:  Opposition MLAs Thursday staged a protest, accusing Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil of involvement in a "Rs 342 crore scam" pertaining to two land deals in Pune district.

The legislators, including Leader of the Opposition in state Assembly Vijay Wadettivar and NCP leaders Jayant Patil, Ajit Pawar and Jitendra Awhad, shouted slogans against the minister in the legislature premises and sought his resignation.

"A detailed probe must be carried out into the matter," Jayant Patil told reporters.

India: DUJ Memo to MPs Call for Urgent Steps to Save Working Journalist Act

New Delhi, June 27; GANASHAKTI: The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) in a memorandum to the newly elected Member of Parliament, yesterday, registered their objection to the announcement made by Minister for Labour Santosh Gangwar, that new Labour Codes will be introduced in the forthcoming session of the 17th Lok Sabha.
