India: Sensex crashes 363 pts as US-China trade talks derail

Mumbai, May 6 (PTI) The BSE Sensex Monday cracked over 362.92 points in line with global sell-offs amid renewed fears that trade negotiations between the US and China are on the verge of collapse.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty dived 114 points to settle below the 11,600-level.

In a sign of derailment of trade talks between the two global economic powers the US and China, US President Donald Trump on Sunday threatened to hike tariffs on USD 200 billion worth of Chinese goods.

India: PM greets people on start of Ramzan

New Delhi May 6 PTI Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday greeted people on the start of the holy month of Ramzan.

"Greetings on the start of the holy month of Ramzan. May this auspicious month further the spirit of harmony, happiness and brotherhood in our society," he tweeted.

Ramzan, the month of fasting in Islam, will begin from Tuesday.

It is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramzan.

India: H1N1 virus has claimed 135 lives in Maha since Jan 1

Mumbai, May 6 (PTI) The H1N1 virus infection has claimed 135 lives so far in Maharashtra in 2019 with 25 people, including two from Mumbai, succumbing to it in the last 10 days, a state Health department official said Monday.

He said Pune had the maximum 36 deaths followed by Nashik and Nagpur at 29 and 23 respectively.

India: Missile destroyer 'INS Ranjit' decommissioned

Visakhapatnam, May 6 (PTI) Frontline missile destroyer of the Indian Navy'INS Ranjit' was decommissioned Monday at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, after serving the Indian navy for 36 years.

INS Ranjit, the third of the five Kashin-class destroyers built by the erstwhile USSR, was commissioned on September 15 1983.

The ship was decommissioned ata solemn ceremony at the Naval Dockyard when the national flag, naval ensign and Commissioning Pennant were lowered.

Indian Polls: SP to support AAP in 2 Delhi seats & BSP in rest

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI) The Samajwadi Party said on Monday it would support the Bahujan Samaj Party in Delhi and also the Aam Aadmi Party in two seats.

As per directions of the top leadership, the SP workers in Delhi will work for the BSP candidates, the spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party's Delhi unit, R S Yadav, said in a statement.

"We will also support New Delhi and North West Delhi(reserved) candidates of the AAP as the BSP has not fielded its candidates there," Yadav added.

Indian: BJP leaders accused of bribing journalists in Ladakh

Jammu, May 6 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party Monday expressed shock over the allegations levelled by the Leh Press Club against BJP leaders for trying to bribe journalists to influence the parliamentary elections.

On Saturday, the Press Club Leh had accused the BJP of trying to bribe its members by offering "envelops filled with money", a charge denied by the party which said the allegations were "politically motivated".

Indian Polls: EC clean chit to PM Modi in two more cases: Sources

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI) The Election Commission has given clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in two more cases, sources aware of the development said Monday.

The Congress had alleged that he held a "roadshow" in Ahmedabad on April 23 and the sources said the commission has concluded that Modi did not violate the model code and the election law.

India: CJI gets clean chit as In-House panel finds "no substance" in sexual harassment allegations

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI) Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi Monday got a clean chit from the Supreme Court's In-House Inquiry Committee which "has found no substance" in the allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by a former woman employee of the apex court.

A notice by the office of Supreme Court Secretary General said the report of the Committee, headed by Justice S A Bobde, "is not liable to be made public".
