India: Over 16000 runners take part in Pune Half Marathon

Pune, Dec 9 (PTI) Marathon enthusiasts from around the country congregated in the city to run in the maiden edition of Bajaj Allianz Pune Half Marathon (PHM), which saw participation from over 16,000 people from various walks of life.

The participants ran across three race categories: The Half Marathon (21 km), The 10 km Run and The Family Run (6 km).

India: Two onion-growers kill self in Nashik

Mumbai, Dec 6 (PTI) Two onion farmers from Maharashtra's Nashik district have allegedly committed suicide in the last two days, apparently due to indebtedness and low rates commanded by the bulb in markets, police said Sunday.

The deceased are identified as Tatyabhau Khairnar (44) and Manoj Dhondage (33) who hailed from Baglan taluka in the north Maharashtra district.

India: BJP pursuing a politics of "hate and lies"

Patna, Dec 9 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday accused the BJP of pursuing a politics of "hate and lies" and stressed on the need for ousting it from power at the Centre.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who is also the party's in-charge for Bihar, alleged that in Delhi - which is ruled by his party - "names of about 30 lakh voters half of whom are from UP-Bihar have been deleted from the electoral roll at the behest of the BJP".

"Where will the disenfranchised voters of Delhi go.

India: Three workers die in Guj while cleaning steel factory tank

Ahmedabad, Dec 9 (PTI) Three workers died Sunday apparently after inhaling a poisonous gas while cleaning a tank at a steel plant near Ahmedabad in Gujarat, police said.

Two other workers are critical.

The incident occurred at Laxcon Steels Limited located on Bavla-Changodar Road when a worker descended into a tank for cleaning and complained of uneasiness, a Changodar police station official said.

Indian diaspora sending USD 80 bil back home: World Bank

Washington, Dec 8 (PTI) India will retain its position as the world's top recipient of remittances this year with its diaspora sending a whopping USD 80 billion back home, the World Bank said in a report Saturday.

India is followed by China (USD 67 billion), Mexico and the Philippines (USD 34 billion each) and Egypt (USD 26 billion), according to the global lender.

With this, India has retained its top spot on remittances, according to the latest edition of the World Bank's Migration and Development Brief.

India: AAP, BJP lock horns over deletion of Bania votes

New Delhi, Dec 8 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday locked horns over alleged mass deletion of Bania votes in Delhi, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying the traders community would not vote for ruling party at the Centre.

With the AAP alleging deletion of four lakh Bania votes in Delhi, Union minister Vijay Goel tweeted, saying AAP was fooling them.

India: Ministers need psychiatrists, not farmers: Chavan

Akola (Maha), Dec 7 (PTI) Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan said Friday that it is the ministers of the BJP-led state government who need the services of psychiatrists and not the debt-ridden farmers.

"Maharashtra's ministers need psychiatrists. Farmer suicides are rising because of the drought and debt burden.

Stop blaming farmers for the government's mismanagement," he said here, addressing a rally.
