Iran, Saudi Arabia pleased with reestablishment of diplomatic ties

18 June 2023; MEMO: Iran and Saudi Arabia expressed satisfaction Saturday with the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, reports Anadolu Agency.

President Ibrahim Raisi received Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan, who is in Tehran on an official visit, according to Iran's official news agency, IRNA.

New Round Of Talks Started Between Yemeni Gov’t, Houthi Rebels In Jordan

AMMAN/SANAA, Jun 17 (NNN-PETRA/SABA) – Negotiations started in Jordan’s capital, Amman yesterday, between the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebel group, under the patronage of the United Nations.

In the two-day talks, the delegations from the two sides will discuss the issue of exchanging prisoners and seek solutions to the obstacles to the implementation of a previous agreement in this regard, a well-informed Yemeni source, said.

Israel could accept U.S.-Iran nuclear 'understanding', senior lawmaker says

JERUSALEM, June 17 (Reuters) - Israel could find acceptable an understanding between its arch-foe Iran and the United States if it includes rigorous supervision of Tehran's nuclear programme, a senior lawmaker said in comments aired on Saturday.

According to Iranian and Western officials, Israel's main ally Washington is holding talks with Iran to sketch out steps that could include limiting the Iranian nuclear programme.

Yemenia Airways restarts direct flights from Sanaa to Saudi Arabia

SANAA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's national airline Yemenia Airways restarted on Saturday direct flights from Houthi-held Sanaa to Saudi Arabia after a nearly-eight-year suspension.

The flights connect the Yemeni capital of Sanaa with the Saudi cities of Jeddah and Madinah and are intended to help Yemeni pilgrims travel to the kingdom, marking another breakthrough amid ongoing international efforts to pave the way for peace in Yemen.

Commercial flights from Sanaa International Airport have been suspended since it came under the control of Houthi rebels in 2014.

Turkish president vows to reduce inflation to single digits

ISTANBUL, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that his government would focus on reducing inflation to single digits from the current nearly 40 percent.

"The uncertainty of the election time is now over. Our hand is stronger," Erdogan told Turkish exporters during a meeting of the Turkish Exporters Assembly in Istanbul.

"We will reduce the inflation, which has been a headache also for the world, to single digits... Our new economic leadership will prioritize this issue," he said.

Türkiye seizes 2,000-year-old statue's head in smuggling crackdown raid

ISTANBUL, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police seized the head of a 2,000-year-old statue in the western city of Izmir as part of a crackdown on a ring of historical artifact smugglers, the state-run Anadolu agency reported Saturday.

The police raided the house of a suspect believed to be involved in the smuggling of ancient treasures in the Karabaglar district of Izmir and found the head of the statue in a dishwasher.

The head is believed to be part of a marble statue depicting a goddess or a noble dating back to the Hellenistic period.

Saudi foreign minister in Iran as part of restoration of diplomatic ties after a 7-year rift

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister arrived in Iran’s capital on Saturday, the latest step in the restoration of diplomatic ties between the two Mideast rivals, Iranian state media reported.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan was officially welcomed by his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amirabdollahian, Iran TV said. He carried a message from the Saudi king to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the two were due to meet later Saturday, Iran TV said.

Israel army court indicts soldier who threatened to murder commanders

16 June 2023; MEMO: The Israeli military court has indicted an army soldier who had chased his commanders and threatened to kill them, Israel's Channel 12 reported on Thursday.

The Channel said the incident took place last year when the soldier, who served in the Paratroopers Brigade base in central Israel, left the military base and returned to his home without permission after being angry with his commanders.

Iran tested drone in Gulf waters without warning, claims US official

16 June 2023; MEMO: Iran test-fired a suicide drone targeting its practice ship in the Gulf, and fired a missile or another drone without warning ships in the area, Reuters reported, citing a US official in the region.

The official added that the drone was launched on Wednesday from the Iranian Jask region 8-9 miles in to the sea within Iranian territorial waters and targeted the training barge.
