US releases oldest Guantanamo detainee after almost 20 years

Jordan temporarily suspends olive oil imports from Palestine

31 October 2022; MEMO: Jordan has decided to temporarily suspend olive oil imports from Palestine, a senior official at the Agriculture Ministry said yesterday.

Assistant Secretary-General for Marketing and Quality at the Ministry of Agriculture, Hazem Al-Samadi, said that importing olive oil from the Palestinian territories "is currently not allowed because we are in the middle of the local oil production season."

Israel: Voter turnout expected to rise among Arab population

31 October 2022; MEMO: Arab voter turnout is expected to reach 50 per cent in tomorrow's Israeli elections, a new report released by the Israel Democracy Institute has said.

This is higher than the rate of turnout expected by the previous polls carried out two months ago, which reached only 39 per cent.

Haaretz said the turnout rate may help Arab parties pass the electoral threshold and remain in the Knesset.

Border Guards Confiscated Smuggled Weapons In Western Iran

TEHRAN, Oct 30 (NNN-IRNA) – Iranian border guards confiscated a batch of smuggled weapons, while smugglers were trying to move them into the country through the western border, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported yesterday.

Citing Iranian Border Guards Commander, Ahmad Ali Goudarzi, the report said, the country’s security forces, using optical equipment, managed to find the smugglers and seize the weapons, which included 38 pistols, 76 magazines, one sword, and one Kalashnikov rifle bayonet.

Food security, Palestinian issue to top agenda of Arab League Summit in Algeria

ALGIERS, Oct 30 (NNN-Xinhua) — The Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul-Gheit said here that food security and the Palestinian issue will be on the top agenda of the Arab League Summit due on Nov 1-2.

In his opening remarks at the proceedings of the foreign ministers’ preparatory meeting for the Arab League Summit, Aboul-Gheit urged the Palestinian factions to implement the Algiers Declaration signed two weeks ago in Algiers in a bid to reach real reconciliation.

Iran's Guards head warns protesters: 'Today is last day of riots'

DUBAI, Oct 29 (Reuters) - The head of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards warned protesters that Saturday would be their last day of taking to the streets, in the clearest sign that security forces may intensify their already fierce crackdown on widespread unrest.

Iran has been gripped by protests since the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police last month, posing one of the boldest challenges to the clerical leadership since the 1979 revolution.
