US officials not invited to Saudi investment conference, says organiser

Saudi Arabia pledges $400m in humanitarian aid to Ukraine

18 October 2022; MEMO: Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has pledged $400 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the official SPA has reported. Bin Salman made his pledge during a phone call last week with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to help his country's current and post-war humanitarian efforts.

Saudi Arabia interested in joining BRICS group: South Africa president

19 October 2022; MEMO: Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in joining the BRICS economic group which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, said yesterday.

Ramaphosa, who has just returned from an official visit to Riyadh, said Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Salman Al Saud, had expressed the kingdom's desire to be part of BRICS.

"They are not the only country [seeking membership in BRICS]," local radio station ABC reported Ramaphosa saying.

Palestine: Lion's Den fighters rejects Israel proposal to give up resistance

19 October 2022; MEMO: Palestinian fighters in the West Bank city of Nablus, known as the Lion's Den, have rejected an Israeli proposal to lay down their arms and give up their resistance to the occupation.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported the London-based Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper saying that the proposal requires the group to lay down their weapons and hand themselves over to the Palestinian Authority (PA) for a brief imprisonment in return for amnesty.

OIC hails Australia move to de-recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital

18 October 2022; MEMO: The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday welcomed a decision by the Australian government to end its recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel's capital, Anadolu News Agency reports.

In a statement, the Jeddah-based grouping hailed Australia's "commitment to the two-state solution", adding that the Australian move "aligns with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions."
