Iran sentences two women to death for 'corruption on earth' - IRNA

DUBAI, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Two women have been sentenced to death in Iran on charges of "corruption on earth" and human trafficking over the last few days, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.

Advocates and rights group took to social media to share pictures of the two women, saying they are LGBT rights activists and are innocent. The pictures could not be verified by Reuters.

Iran condemns deadly attack on Russian Embassy in Kabul

TEHRAN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman on Monday strongly condemned a deadly blast outside the Russian Embassy in the Afghan capital of Kabul, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

Sympathizing in a message with the Russian government and the families of the terror attack's victims, Nasser Kanaani called on Afghan officials to implement more serious measures to ensure the security of the embassies and diplomatic missions in the country.

Iran says answer to U.S. nuclear deal responses "constructive, clear, legal"

TEHRAN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian foreign ministry said on Monday that Iran's answer to the U.S. response to its viewpoints on the European Union's proposed final draft of a potential nuclear agreement was "constructive, clear and legal," semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

If the other side has the reciprocal determination, Iran's answer can prepare the ground for the conclusion of the negotiations on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal in a very short period, Nasser Kanaani, the ministry spokesman, told a weekly press conference.

No end to crisis as Iraq’s PM ends second round of talks

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq’s caretaker prime minister convened a second round of talks Monday with Iraqi leaders aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis between rival Shiite blocs, but the representatives of an influential cleric failed once again to attend the gathering.

The seat reserved for Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr’s party was empty as Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi met with al-Sadr’s chief political rivals in the Iran-backed camp, as well as President Barham Salih and U.N. representative Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

Israeli army: ‘High probability’ soldier killed reporter

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military on Monday announced the long-awaited results of its investigation into the deadly shooting of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, saying there was a “high probability” an Israeli soldier had mistakenly killed her during a raid in the occupied West Bank last May.

India: Murugha Math seer sent to judicial custody

Chitradurga (K'taka), Sep 5 (PTI) A local court here on Monday ordered the chief pontiff of Murugha Math Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, who is facing charges of sexual abuse of minor girls, to be sent to judicial custody till September 14.

The judicial custody is for a period of nine days.

The police did not seek extension of the police custody in which he was held since September 2.

Following this, the Second Additional District and Sessions Court sent him to judicial custody.

JCPOA revival not necessary if US provides no guarantee: expert

Tehran, IRNA – Deputy Secretary General of the Islamic Coalition Party Hamid Reza Taraghi said the negotiating team is after gaining JCPOA economic interests for the Iranian nation but if the US provides no guarantee, reviving the nuclear deal will not be necessary.

Iranian commander: Enemies threat navigation by small espionage units

Bandar Abbas, IRNA - Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said on Monday that the enemies threaten navigation by deploying small espionage units in their latest attempt to compensate for the reduction in their forces in the Middle East.

Speaking at the ceremony for the deployment of surface and subsurface battle equipment enhanced in the Iranian Navy’s plants, Major General Mohammad Baqeri said that Iran believed that freedom of navigation should be equally protected for everyone and it would defend the right for the Iranian nation.
