Hamas condemns Israel for allowing concerts at Beersheba Mosque

03 September 2022; MEMO: The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Friday condemned the Israeli government for allowing the organisation of a series of concerts at Beersheba Great Mosque.

In a statement, Hamas expressed: "We condemn with the strongest terms the Israeli occupation's agreement to hold a series of concerts and festivals at Beersheba Great Mosque."

US compels Iran again to release seized US sail drones

03 September 2022; MEMO: The United States compelled Iran, for a second time this week, to release US military sail drones that it tried to seize at sea, a US defence official said on Friday, Reuters reports.

Iran has been building up its naval presence in the Red Sea, near the coast of Yemen where Tehran backs the Houthi Movement, after sending vessels there more than a decade ago to protect Iranian oil tankers and merchant ships against piracy.

Over 100 Asylum Seekers Evacuated From Libya To Rwanda: UN Agency

TRIPOLI, Sept 2 (NNN-LANA) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said yesterday that, it evacuated more than 100 asylum seekers from Libya to Rwanda.

“More than 100 vulnerable asylum seekers have been evacuated on a flight out of Libya to Rwanda,” the UNHCR said in a statement.

The asylum seekers, including 38 children, are from different African countries, it added.

“We are also grateful to the relevant Libyan authorities for their support in facilitating necessary formalities for these humanitarian evacuation flights,” it noted.

India: 2 Maoists killed in Jharkhand

Seraikela, Sep 2 (PTI) Two Maoists were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday morning, police said.

The Maoists were killed during a joint operation by the CRPF's CoBRA, Jharkhand Jaguar and the state police, they said.

"Two CPI(Maoist) members were gunned down in an operation at Baruda forest in Kuchai police station area," deputy inspector general of Kolhan division Ajay Linda told PTI.

The bodies were recovered by the forces along with arms and ammunition, he said.

India: SC grants interim bail to activist Setalvad

New Delhi, Sep 2 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday granted interim bail to social activist Teesta Setalvad, arrested on June 25 for allegedly fabricating evidence to frame "innocent people" in the 2002 Gujarat riots cases.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sudhanshu Dhulia asked Setalvad to surrender her passport with trial court till the time the Gujarat High Court decides her regular bail plea.

Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drone being exported to 24 countries

01 September 2022; MEMO: The number of countries where Turkish fighter drone Bayraktar TB2 is being exported to has risen to 24, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar, the drone manufacturer, told Anadolu Agency the share of exports in the company's revenue for this year has reached 98 per cent.

Israel court sentences Gaza aid worker to 12 years in prison

01 September 2022; MEMO: The Beersheba district court in southern Israel on Tuesday sentenced former Palestinian aid worker with World Vision to 12 years in prison on allegations of "financing terrorism".

Mohammed El-Halabi's lawyer, Maher Hana, said that he would appeal the conviction to the Supreme Court as much of the evidence against him was kept secret, with Israel citing "security concerns", prompting his legal team to question the verdict's legitimacy.

Syria FM says Israel 'playing with fire' after overnight strikes

01 September 2022; MEMO: Syria's Foreign Minister said, on Thursday, that Israel was "playing with fire", following Israeli strikes near Damascus and on Aleppo's International Airport the previous evening, Reuters reports.

The strikes resulted in material damage only, according to state news agency, SANA, which said Syria's air defences shot down a number of Israeli missiles around the capital.

There was no immediate comment from Israeli officials.

Appeal of Israeli terrorist convicted of murdering Dawabsheh family rejected

01 September 2022; MEMO: The Israeli Supreme Court of Justice today rejected the appeal of the Jewish-Israeli terrorist, serving three life sentences for the murder of 18-month-old baby Ali Dawabsheh and his parents, Saad and Riham in 2015.

According to Haaretz, the judges in the case unanimously rejected Amiram Ben-Uliel's claim that he was interrogated under torture by the Shin Bet, and that his subsequent confessions and reconstruction were therefore illegal.
