Zelenskyy visits Poland to thank ally and meet Ukrainians

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife arrived in Poland Wednesday for a state visit that is meant as a gesture of thanks to the neighboring nation for its crucial support in Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion.

The visit is a rare foray for Zelenskyy out of Ukraine since Russia unleased the war in February 2022. While it follows visits to the United States, Britain, France and Belgium, it stands out from the others because it was announced in advance without the secrecy of past visits.

Poland: Zelenskyy to visit Warsaw to meet with Poles, Ukrainians

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will pay a visit to Warsaw this week that will include talks with political leaders and a meeting with regular Ukrainians and Poles, Polish officials announced on Monday.

Zelenskyy will be accompanied by his wife, Olena Zelenska, for the visit, scheduled for Wednesday. It will begin with an official meeting at the Royal Castle between Zelenskyy and his host, Polish President Andrzej Duda.

Poland not to hand over all its MiG-29 planes to Ukraine at once — Deputy Foreign Minister

WARSAW, March 27. /TASS/: Polish authorities have no intention to hand over all its MiG-29 jet fighters to Ukraine at once, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski said on RMF radio, adding that the Polish Defense Ministry does not disclose further details of the handover process.

"I believe we will not give away everything. Definitely not in one batch," he said.

According to Jablonski, the handover process is classified.

Japan’s Kishida pledges aid for Ukraine-backing Poland

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Japan’s prime minister pledged Wednesday to provide Poland with development support to help the European country assist neighboring Ukraine as it defends itself from Russia’s invasion.

Polish Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki hosted Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Warsaw a day after Kishida made a surprise visit to Kyiv and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Poland breaks up Russian spy network, says minister

WARSAW, March 16 (Reuters) - Poland has broken up a Russian espionage network operating in the country and detained nine people it says were preparing acts of sabotage and monitoring rail routes to Ukraine, the interior minister said on Thursday.

An ally of Ukraine and hub for deliveries of weapons to Kyiv's armed forces, Poland says it has regularly found itself the target of Russian efforts to destabilise the country.

Poland: Warsaw to send 10 more Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine this week — defense minister

WARSAW, March 7. /TASS/: Poland will send ten more Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine this week, Polish National Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said on Tuesday.

According to the Polish defense minister, four out of the 14 tanks Poland has promised to send to Kiev are already in Ukraine. "Ten more will reach Ukraine this week," he said.

Russia halts oil supply to Poland: Polish refiner

WARSAW, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russia has halted oil supplies to Poland via the Druzhba pipeline, Poland's leading oil and gas conglomerate PKN Orlen said Saturday.

The company said it is fully prepared for such a situation and that deliveries to its refinery can be made entirely by sea.

"Only 10 percent of the raw material came from Russia, and we will replace it with oil from other directions," Daniel Obajtek, CEO of the Polish refiner, said on Twitter.

Polish Leopard 2 tanks are already in Ukraine, says defense chief

Biden’s meeting with leaders of the Bucharest Nine nations in Warsaw came at the conclusion of a whirlwind, four-day visit to Ukraine and Poland meant to reassure allies that U.S. support in fending off Russia isn’t at risk of waning.
