India: WPI inflation eases to 12.41 pc in Aug

New Delhi, Sep 14 (PTI) The wholesale price-based inflation eased for the third consecutive month in August to 12.41 per cent, on softening in prices of manufactured items, even as food items saw an uptick.

The Wholesale Price Index-based inflation was 13.93 per cent in July and 11.64 per cent in August last year.

August is the 17th consecutive month of double-digit wholesale price inflation (WPI).

Turkish exports to Egypt break record in 2022

14 Sep 2022; MEMO: Turkish exports to Egypt reached an all-time high of $2.8 billion from January through August, Anadolu reported yesterday, citing data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).

According to the report, the volume of Turkish exports to Egypt grew 17 per cent from January through August compared to the same period last year.

Israel sells anti-drone system to Ukraine via Poland

13 Sep 2022; MEMO: An Israeli firm has supplied anti-drone systems to Ukraine through Poland, Israeli media revealed yesterday.

According to the Hebrew news website, Zman Yisrael, a source in the firm said that the equipment was being sold to Poland to circumvent Israel's refusal to sell advanced arms to Ukraine.

Air India to induct 30 planes over next 15 months

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Air India on Monday said it will progressively induct 30 new aircraft, including 5 wide-body Boeing planes, from December this year, as the Tatas-owned airline looks to boost its domestic and international services.

The airline has signed leases and letters of intent for inducting 5 wide-body Boeing and 25 Airbus narrow-body planes over the next 15 months.

Egypt denies adopting Russian ruble in tourism sector

12 Sep 2022; MEMO: An adviser to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has denied issuing a circular announcing the use of the Russian ruble instead of the US dollar, local media reported.

This came after the head of the Egyptian Parliament's Tourism Committee, Nora Ali, was quoted by Egyptian media as praising the Central Bank's decision to adopt the use of the Russian ruble in the list of major currencies used in local banks.

Israel: No return to Iran nuclear deal before US mid-term elections

12 Sep 2022; MEMO: Israel believes that there will be no return to Iran's nuclear deal before the US mid-term elections, senior Israeli officials said yesterday.

"If the US does not give into Iran's demands, and Iran does not give into US demands and the IAEA does not close the probes, there will be no return to the agreement," the Times of Israel reported the official saying.
