Costly frost in France attributed to climate change

BERLIN (AP) — Scientists say damaging frost that caused significant economic loss to France’s central winegrowing region this year was made more likely by climate change.

A report released Tuesday by researchers who study the link between global warming and weather events suggests that the intense April 6-8 frost in France was particularly damaging due to a preceding warm period in March.

UK PM expected to delay COVID lockdown end by 4 weeks to July 19

London, Jun 14 (PTI) UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce a four-week delay to an end to all legal lockdown restrictions in the country when he makes a statement later on Monday in relation to so-called Freedom Day , which was set for June 21.

The last and fourth stage of the lockdown roadmap is now expected around July 19 instead amid a worrying spike in cases of the Delta variant, which experts fear will result in greater hospitalisations in the coming weeks.

Egypt allows entry of new, used cars to Gaza, angers PA

14 June 2021; MEMO: The High Administrative Committee in Gaza told traders that they can import new and used cars through Egypt, making the Palestinian Authority (PA) angry, Sama News agency reported yesterday.

This measure, which was approved by Egypt, increased the income of the Administrative Committee of the government in the Gaza Strip.

Gaza fishermen protest against continuous Israel siege

14 June 2021; MEMO: Scores of Palestinian fishermen yesterday staged a protest against the continuous Israeli siege on Gaza, as well as the occupation's aggression on the fishing industry, Anadolu reported.

Fishermen Syndicate in Gaza organised the protest, which took place in the port west of Gaza City.

The fishermen held posters reading: "It is my right to move freely… Yes to the full lifting of the siege." They also raised the Palestine flag.

Brexit tensions are a test for Europe, says French minister

(Reuters) --- French European Affairs junior minister Clement Beaune said on Monday that current tensions over Brexit between British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government and the European Union were "a test" for Europe.

The tensions between Britain and the EU threatened to overshadow the Group of Seven summit's conclusion on Sunday, with London accusing France of "offensive" remarks that Northern Ireland was not part of the United Kingdom. 

Turkish president stresses importance of alliance ahead of NATO summit

"We will participate in an important summit where decisions will be taken regarding the NATO 2030 process, which will determine the alliance's roadmap for the next ten years," Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters before his departure for Brussels.

Turkish defense minister reiterates support to Libya during visit

13 June 2021; MEMO: Turkey's national defense minister has reiterated his country's support for Libya during a high-level visit to the country ahead of Monday's NATO summit, reports Anadolu Agency.

Hulusi Akar met with Libyan military officials on Saturday and visited Libya Task Group Command.

Addressing the personnel at the command, Akar emphasized the long-standing friendly ties between Turkey and Libya.

'Intense' Iran nuclear talks resume as Germany calls for rapid progress

13 June 2021; MEMO: Indirect talks between Tehran and Washington on reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear deal resumed in Vienna on Saturday as the European Union said negotiations were "intense" and Germany called for rapid progress, reports Reuters.

The sixth round of talks began as usual with a meeting of remaining parties to the deal – Iran, Russia, China, France, Britain, Germany, and the European Union – in the basement of a luxury hotel.

Iran imports electricity from Azerbaijan Republic

Tehran, June 12, IRNA – Iran began importing electricity from Azerbaijan Republic on Thursday to alleviate electricity supply limitations, the spokesman for Iran's Power Generation, Distribution, and Transmission Company (Tavanir) said.

Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said on Saturday that the electricity grid of Mughan in northwest Iran has been synchronized with that of Azerbaijan Republic so that 73 megawatts of electricity is injected to Iran’s power grid.

The imported electricity has the capacity to increase to 130 megawatts in the peak, he added.
