Delhi government increases minimum wage for daily wagers

New Delhi, Jun 18 (PTI) The Delhi government increased the dearness allowance for unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and other workers in all scheduled employments on Friday, thus increasing the overall amount of the minimum wage.

In a statement, the city government said the order shall be applicable from April 1.

Mumbai, Jun 18 (PTI) Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das has pitched for policy support from all sides -- fiscal, monetary and sectoral -- to nurture recovery of the economy hit by the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

The dent on economic activity due to the second wave of the pandemic during April-May necessitated continuation of monetary measures to support the process of economic recovery to make it durable, Das had said while participating in the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) earlier in the month.

India: IT Minister Prasad slams Twitter for not complying with new IT rules

New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday slammed Twitter for deliberate defiance and failure to comply with the country's new IT rules, which has led to the US giant losing its intermediary status in India and becoming liable for users posting any unlawful content.

Twitter has allegedly not fully complied with the new rules, called Intermediary Guidelines that call for setting up grievance redressal mechanism and appointing officers to coordinate with law enforcement.

India: Taj Mahal reopens after two months, tourists delighted

Agra, Jun 16 (PTI) A 40-year-old woman from Brazil was one of the early tourists to step inside the premises of Taj Mahal as it opened on Wednesday after having been closed for around two months amid the Covid-induced lockdown.

As many as 1,919 tourists, including two foreign nationals, visited the monument on the first day, officials said, adding 221 people visited Agra Fort, 75 Fatehpur Sikri and 151 Akbar's Tomb in Sikandra.

New Delhi, Jun 17 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said rebuilding India will begin once Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledges his mistakes and seeks help from experts as living in denial will not solve anything.

He said this while citing a report quoting World Bank's data on poverty where India has a share of 57.3 per cent in rise in global poverty during the Covid pandemic.
