India: 470 infra projects show cost overruns worth Rs 4.38 lakh crore

New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) As many as 470 infrastructure projects, each worth Rs 150 crore or more, have been hit by cost overruns totalling more than Rs 4.38 lakh crore, according to a report.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation monitors infrastructure projects worth Rs 150 crore and above. Of the 1,737 such projects, 470 reported cost overruns and 525 were delayed.

India: Google, Facebook updating website to reflect new social media rules

New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) Large digital companies like Google and Facebook have begun updating their websites to reflect the appointment of the grievance officers under the new social media rules that came into effect recently.

According to government sources, large social media companies like Google, Facebook and WhatsApp have shared details with the IT Ministry as per the requirement of the new digital rules, but Twitter is still not following the norms.

India now produces 10 times more medical oxygen: Modi

NEW DELHI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday in his monthly radio programme said the production of liquid medical oxygen, a key component in the treatment of COVID-19 patients, in the country has gone up by 10 times.

"In the normal course, here we were producing 900 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen in a day. Now the production has gone over 10 times to 9,500 metric tonnes a day," said the Prime Minister.

India: Petrol price crosses Rs 100 a litre in Mumbai

New Delhi, May 29 (PTI) Petrol price on Saturday crossed the Rs 100-a-litre mark in Mumbai after the 15th increase in fuel prices this month.

Petrol price was increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel by 28 paise a litre, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers.

The increase - 15th this month - took petrol and diesel prices to a fresh all-time high across the country.

There is agreement to lift main sanctions on Iran: Rouhani

28 May 2021; MEMO: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said yesterday that "an agreement has been reached to lift the main sanctions on our country, but there are still other penalties that must be lifted to fully implement the nuclear deal."

"The sanctions could have been lifted, but it should have been done unanimously, and we are the ones who requested the full lifting of the sanctions, and in the form of steps," added Rouhani.

India: RBI flags risk of bubble in Indian equity markets

New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday said the sharp rally in the domestic equity markets despite an estimated 8 per cent contraction in GDP in 2020-21 poses the "risk of a bubble".

In its annual report for 2020-21, RBI noted that India's equity prices have surged to record highs, with the benchmark index Sensex crossing the 50,000 mark on January 21, 2021 to touch a peak of 52,154 on February 15.

India: Farmers protest at Jewar toll plaza on Yamuna Expressway

Noida (UP), May 28 (PTI) A group of farmers protesting against the central farm laws on Friday staged a demonstration at the Jewar toll plaza here, partially disrupting traffic movement on the Yamuna Expressway, according to officials.

The farmers belonging to the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) had reached Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar on Thursday with an objective to stage the demonstration as part of their plan to carry out similar protests at some other toll plazas in western Uttar Pradesh.
