India: All missing on board barge P305 accounted for, death toll rises to 86

Mumbai, May 24 (PTI) All the 274 personnel who were on board barge P305 that sank and tugboat Varaprada that went adrift during Cyclone Tauktae fury have been accounted for with the recovery of 16 bodies along Maharashtra and Gujarat coasts, the Navy said on Monday.

India: Security up in Hisar ahead of farmers' protest

Chandigarh, May 23 (PTI) The district authorities here stepped up security ahead of a farmers' protest on Monday.

Farmers had given a call for the protest after the state police booked over 300 of them in connection with a violent clash in the district last Sunday.

Police had lobbed tear gas shells and used force to disperse a group of farmers who had tried to march towards the venue where Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had gone to inaugurate a COVID hospital.

India: Lockdown extended in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan

New Delhi/Chandigarh, May 23 (PTI) Lockdown was extended on Sunday in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Puducherry, with many states already imposing COVID-induced restrictions till May-end to rein in the spread of infection and the mounting deaths which crossed the three lakh mark.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the ongoing lockdown in the national capital will continue for another week and said the process of "unlock" will start from May 31 in a phased manner if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to decline.

Egypt receives raw materials to produce Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine

CAIRO, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Egypt has received the first batch of the raw materials to manufacture China's Sinovac vaccine, said the Chinese embassy in Egypt on Sunday.

Along with the Sinovac raw materials, a new shipment of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines also arrived at the Cairo International Airport on Friday, according to a Chinese embassy's statement.

UAE asks to host 2023 UN climate change conference

23 May 2021; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates has asked to host the COP 28 international conference on climate change in 2023, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan said on Sunday, reports Reuters.

The annual Conference of Parties (COP) is the decision-making body responsible for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Poland to buy Turkish drones

23 May 2021; MEMO: Poland will buy 24 armed drones from Turkey, the Polish defence minister said on Saturday, becoming the first NATO member to buy Turkish-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), reports Reuters.

The Bayraktar TB2 drones, the first of which are due to be delivered next year, will be armed with anti-tank projectiles. Poland will also buy a logistics and training package, said Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.

India: AAP urges PM Modi to resume talks with farmers

Chandigarh, May 22 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accept with humility farmers' invitation of talks over the Centre's agriculture laws and resolve the issue.

In a letter to the PM, AAP MP Bhagwant Mann and the party's Punjab affairs co-incharge Raghav Chadha also claimed that 470 have died during the course of the agitation, which is unfortunate and painful.

Coca-Cola factory destroyed in Israel shelling of Gaza

21 May 2021; MEMO: Israel's artillery yesterday targeted, for the third time, Gaza Industrial City, with direct shells fired at six factories.

A statement issued by Gaza Industrial City, one of the PADICO investments, said that the Israeli artillery stationed near the Karni crossing fired several shells directly at the factories, which led to the destruction of six factories. This brings the number of destroyed factories in the industrial city during Israel's ten-day assault on Gaza to 15 factories.
