Algeria army commander visits Brazil to strengthen ties

11 Apr 2023; MEMO: The Algerian army's Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, yesterday started an official visit to Brazil, the Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

Serving as representative of the president, the supreme chief of the Armed Forces, and the minister of national defence, Chengriha will take part in the 13th Defence and Security Exhibition (LAAD-2023), organised in Rio De Janeiro from 11-14 April, the ministry added in its statement.

Egypt: inflation rises to 32.7%

11 Apr 2023; MEMO: Egypt's annual urban consumer inflation rate in March increased to 32.7 per cent, up from 31.9 per cent in February, data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed yesterday.

The monthly headline urban consumer price index (CPI) registered 2.7 per cent in March, down from 6.5 per cent in February, but up from 2.2 per cent in the same month a year earlier.

Turkiye plans to build 1,000 EV stations by end of 2023

11 Apr 2023; MEMO: Turkiye's first electric vehicle charging network, plans to build 1,000 stations by the end of 2023, with at least one fast-charging (DC) charging station in each of the country's 81 provinces, local media reports.

According to the report, Esarj, Turkiye's first electric vehicle charging network will direct over 90 per cent of its new investments to fast-charging stations to have at least one charging station across 81 provinces by the end of the year.

Yemen Southern Transitional Council says restoring State of the South a 'strategic' goal

Russia Aeroflot sends aircraft for repair to Iran

11 Apr 2023; MEMO: Russia's largest air carrier, Aeroflot, whose aircraft maintenance capabilities are crippled by Western sanctions, sent one of its Airbus planes to Iran for repair, the company said on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

According to the flight tracking system, Flightradar24, the Airbus A330-300 flew to Tehran on 5 April and remains there until now.

GCC holds consultative meeting to discuss Syria return to Arab League

11 Apr 2023; MEMO: The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has sent invitations to member States to attend a meeting next Friday in the Saudi capital, Jeddah, to discuss the possibility of Syria's return to the Arab League, a Qatari official said.

A spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Al-Ansari, said Doha has received the invitation adding that Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, will also participate in the "consultative meeting" since they are "concerned countries".

Indian Rupee falls 13 paise to close at 82.12 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 11 (PTI) The rupee depreciated 13 paise to close at 82.12 (provisional) against the US currency on Tuesday as dollar demand from importers weighed on investor sentiments.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 81.96 against the dollar, and finally ended the day at 82.12 (provisional), 13 paise lower from its previous close.

During the day, the rupee witnessed a high of 81.96 and a low of 82.15 against the greenback.

Reports: 90% of tourist reservations in north Israel cancelled

10 Apr 2023; MEMO: After rockets launched from Lebanon and Syrian towards north of Israel, 90 per cent of tourists who planned to visit the area cancelled their reservations, Israeli media reported on Sunday.

Israeli Hebrew daily Maariv reported that business owners expected many tourists to spend their holidays in the north of the country, but the rockets pushed them to change their plans.
