Top Russian, Egyptian diplomats discuss bilateral, international issues

18 Dec 2022; MEMO: The foreign ministers of Russia and Egypt discussed bilateral ties and international issues in a phone call on Saturday, reports Anadolu Agency.

Sergey Lavrov and Sameh Shoukry exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

They affirmed mutual interest in strengthening cooperation on topical international and regional issues, including in the UN, it added.

Saudi, UK sign defence co-operation plan to deepen military alliance

15 Dec 2022; MEMO: The UK and Saudi Arabia are to deepen military ties following the signing of a new defence co-operation plan earlier this week. Riyadh's Defence Minister Prince Khalid Bin Salman, who is the younger brother of the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salam met with UK Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, in London to agree details of the plan.

EU must see Turkiye as candidate country engaged in membership negotiations, says FM

14 Dec 2022; MEMO: Recent resolutions by the EU General Affairs Council that contains parts on Turkiye shows the narrow-mindedness and prejudice of the bloc, Ankara said on Wednesday.

"The section on our country in the resolutions adopted by the European Union (EU) at the General Affairs Council once again reveals the narrow-minded and prejudiced view of the EU towards Turkiye," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement a day after the EU Council released the conclusions on enlargement, stabilisation and association.

Turkey: Oil tankers waiting to pass through Istanbul Strait fall to 13 - agency

12 Dec 2022; MEMO: The number of tankers waiting to pass through Istanbul's Bosporus Strait on the way to the Mediterranean fell to 13 on Monday, from 17 a day earlier, the Tribeca Shipping Agency said, showing an easing of the recent build-up in traffic, Reuters reports.

A Turkish measure in force since the start of the month has caused shipping delays. It requires vessels to provide proof of insurance covering the duration of their transit through the Bosporus Strait or when calling at Turkish ports.

Jordan, Turkiye discuss military cooperation

13 Dec 2022; MEMO: Jordan's Chief of Staff Yousef Huneiti met the Turkish Ambassador to the kingdom, Ismail Aramaz, yesterday to discuss military cooperation between the two countries.

The kingdom's army said in an official statement that the officials discussed "cooperation and coordination, and ways to enhance bilateral relations to serve the interests of the armed forces of the two countries."

The meeting was attended by a "number of senior Jordanian military officers," it added in its statement.

Egypt: BP signs MOU on large-scale green hydrogen production

12 Dec 2022; MEMO: BP has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Egyptian government with the aim of establishing a large-scale renewable hydrogen production facility in the North African country, it said in a statement 8 December, Bloomberg reports.

"Egypt has world-class renewable energy resources, and we look forward to working with the government to explore how we can support its ambitious low-carbon strategy," BP Executive Vice President of Gas and Low Carbon Energy, Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath said in the statement.

"European ties with Gulf 'should not be transactional"; UAE official

11 Dec 2022; MEMO: A senior United Arab Emirates official said on Saturday it was encouraging to see greater European outreach to Gulf Arab states in the face of the Ukraine conflict and energy crunch, but that engagement should not be "transactional", reports Reuters.

A number of European officials have visited Gulf countries to secure energy supplies outside of former top provider Russia after the West imposed sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.

Turkiye, Russia can export other goods via grain corridor: Erdogan

11 Dec 2022; MEMO: Ankara and Moscow can start working on the export of different food products and gradually other commodities through the grain corridor, the Turkish president told his Russian counterpart on Sunday, reports Anadolu Agency.

In a phone call with Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said over 13 million tons of grain have reached those in need through joint efforts so far under the Black Sea grain export deal, according to a statement by Turkiye's Communications Directorate.

Iran, Serbia to expansion of cooperation in agriculture

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Jelena Tanasković as he continued his visit to the European country.

Amir-Abdollahian was briefed by Ms. Tanasković on the expanding cooperation between Tehran and Belgrade in the field of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and the views of the Serbian official about ways of boosting relations.

New York, Dec 10 (PTI) Nihar Malaviya, an Indian-origin publishing executive, has been named interim CEO of New York-based international publishing group Penguin Random House after its current chief executive officer Markus Dohle announced he is stepping down from the role.
