Turkey, EU clash over Ankara's accession bid

ANKARA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Turkey and the European Union are again clashing over Ankara's enduring accession bid amid a call by European lawmakers to suspend the already stalled negotiations, but experts believe that mutual interest will prevail in the end.

Last week, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament called on the European Commission and member states to formally halt the talks, citing Turkey's disregard for human rights and civil liberties, influence on the judiciary, and disputes over territory with neighboring Cyprus.

Fed Chairman Powell highlights patience in monetary policy as he testifies before Congress

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell told Congress Tuesday in a testimony that the central bank will be "taking a patient approach" in determining future changes in monetary policy.

The central bank, Powell said, will be "taking a patient approach with regard to future policy changes." He said policy decisions "will continue to be data dependent and will take into account new information as economic conditions and the outlook evolve."

Trump arrives in Hanoi for 2nd DPRK-U.S. summit

HANOI, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump arrived at the Noi Bai International Airport of Hanoi Tuesday evening for the second summit with Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

After disembarking from Air Force One, Trump shook hands and talked with officials who were at the airport to greet him, before heading for his hotel.

Kim arrived in Hanoi earlier on Tuesday morning.

Chinese, Russian FMs meet on closer ties

HANGZHOU, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday vowed to enhance strategic communication and promote cooperation within the meeting of the foreign ministers of China, Russia and India (RIC).

The ministers made the remarks during their meeting on the sidelines of the 16th trilateral meeting of RIC foreign ministers in Wuzhen of east China's Zhejiang Province.

Trump says he sees 'signing summit' with China on trade

Brexit: Labour willing to back new Brexit referendum

"This week Labour will put its alternative plan for a vote in the House of Commons," Brexit spokesman Keir Starmer said on Twitter. "If Parliament rejects our plan, then Labour will deliver on the promise we made at our annual conference and support a public vote."

Security Council should review, eventually lift sanctions on Sudan: Chinese envoy

UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese envoy on Monday called on the UN Security Council to review sanctions against Sudan in accordance with the latest situation and eventually lift the sanctions.

Speaking at a Security Council meeting on Sudan and South Sudan, Wu Haitao, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, said that the security situation in Sudan's Darfur region remains generally stable after the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) gradually handed over responsibility for security to the government of Sudan last year.

Britain, U.S. reach deal over post-Brexit trading and clearing of derivatives

LONDON, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The British and United States authorities announced an agreement Monday on the continuity of derivatives trading and clearing after Brexit.

The deal was struck between, on the one hand, the UK's main financial markets regulators the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and the Bank of England's (BoE) Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and on the other hand the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
