At G-20, possible ‘breakthrough’ seen after all-night talks

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — All-night talks at the Group of 20 summit have resulted in a possible “breakthrough” on fixing the global trading system, European diplomats said Saturday as the gathering entered its crucial second and final day in the Argentine capital.

Despite deep divisions going into the summit and resistance from the United States, European Union officials said countries also are making progress on a final statement that will acknowledge problems with the World Trade Organization but commit to reforming it.

Panaji, Nov 29 (PTI) The closure of iron ore mining in Goa since the last eight months has adversely impacted the state's economy which is facing Rs 1,500-crore revenue loss every month from the sector besides jobs taking a hit, said officials and industry bodies.

The Supreme Court, in its February 7 order, had quashed 88 mining leases, which had to wind up their operations from March 16, bringing the entire industry, a key source of revenue for the government, to a grinding halt.

Azim Premji conferred highest French civilian honour

Bengaluru, Nov 28 (PTI) IT czar and philanthropist Azim Premji was bestowed with the highest French civilian distinction Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) here Wednesday.

Premji, who is the chairman of Bengaluru-headquartered IT major Wipro, received the distinction from the Ambassador of France to India Alexandre Ziegler here, Wipro said.

U.S. business groups urge White House to resolve trade dispute with China

WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 150 U.S. business groups on Tuesday urged the White House to resolve the ongoing trade dispute with China during an expected meeting between the two countries' leaders at the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Argentina later this week.

In a letter addressed to U.S. President Donald Trump, the Americans for Free Trade, a lobbying coalition representing these business groups, said it urged Trump to capitalize on the upcoming meeting to reach an agreement with the Chinese side on the trade front.

28 Nov 2018; AFP: President Donald Trump will hold a make-or-break trade meeting with his Chinese counterpart at the G20 summit this week and also navigate a diplomatic minefield with Russia's president after unrest in Ukraine, the White House said Tuesday.

Trump is due to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Buenos Aires for a working dinner at the Group of 20 summit that runs Friday and Saturday.
