LONDON, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday launched a two-week campaign to sell the Brexit deal, a historic agreement approved Sunday by 27 European Union (EU) leaders, to the whole country, as she is facing a daunting task in winning over a hostile House of Commons in its expected vote in December.

GM to close Ontario plant, costing 2,500 jobs

TORONTO (AP) — General Motors is planning to announce the closure of its Oshawa, Ontario, plant Monday, which will eventually result in the loss of about 2,500 jobs.

The plant closure announcement was confirmed late Sunday by an official familiar with the decision. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly ahead of Monday’s announcement.

Hundreds of flights canceled as snowstorm blankets US Midwest

CHICAGO (AP) — A winter storm blanketed much of the central Midwest with snow on Sunday at the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, bringing blizzard-like conditions that grounded hundreds of flights and forced the closure of major highways on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

“It’s going to be messy,” said Todd Kluber, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service who is based in suburban Chicago.

China, India reach important consensus on boundary issues: FM

CHENGDU, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Senior officials of China and India had reached some important consensus on boundary issues during a Saturday meeting, said a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The 21st round of talks between Chinese and Indian special representatives on boundary issues was co-chaired by Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

EU endorses Brexit deal and warns: there’s no better offer

BRUSSELS (AP) — European Union leaders on Sunday sealed a divorce deal with Britain, and issued a warning to U.K. politicians who within weeks will approve or reject it — this offer is as good as it gets.

Amid criticism of the deal from lawmakers on all sides of Britain’s EU debate, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said the U.K. couldn’t hope to negotiate better terms before its departure in March.

Iran issues e-visa to attract foreign tourists

TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iran has begun to issue electronic visas for attracting more foreign tourists, Press TV reported on Saturday.

The plan has been implemented since Thursday, Nov. 22, Head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Ali Asghar Mounesan, was quoted as saying.

The plan is mainly aimed at facilitating travels to Iran by foreign tourists, Mounesan said.

He expressed hope that the move could play a leading role in attracting more foreign tourists to the country.

China supports necessary WTO reforms

BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- China supports necessary reforms of the World Trade Organization (WTO), raising three fundamental principles and five proposals concerning such improvements, the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) said Friday.

The multilateral trading system is now challenged by unilateralism and trade protectionism, Wang Shouwen, vice minister of commerce, told a press conference.

France to return African treasures to Benin

24 Nov 2018; AFP: French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday agreed to return 26 cultural artefacts to Benin "without delay", a move that could put pressure on other former colonial powers to return African artworks to their countries of origin.

The decision -- which Macron said should not be seen as an isolated or symbolic case -- came as the president received the findings of a study he commissioned on repatriating African treasures held by French museums.

Israeli sues Airbnb over ouster of settler rentals

24 Nov 2018; AFP: Israeli lawyers have filed a class action against Airbnb after its decision to remove Jewish settler homes in the occupied West Bank from its rental listings.

A spokesman for the attorneys, who spoke to AFP Friday on condition of anonymity, said the lead plaintiff was Maanit Rabinovich of Kida settlement in the West Bank.

Rabinovich says Airbnb never contacted her to warn her of its intention.

Clashes on Champs-Elysees as French protesters rage against taxes

24 Nov 2018; AFP: Anti-government protesters clashed with French police on the Champs-Elysees in Paris on Saturday, leaving the area cloaked in tear gas and smoke from fires on a fresh day of demonstrations against President Emmanuel Macron.

Demonstrators wearing the yellow, high-visibility vests that symbolise their movement threw projectiles at police preventing them from moving along the famed shopping avenue, which was decked out in twinkling Christmas lights.
