Russia, India to sign more than 20 document during Putin’s visit to India

MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russia and India plan signing more than 20 documents at the end of the talks that Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to have with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a visit to New Delhi on October 4-5, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters on Tuesday.

"Apart from a conversation tete-a-tete, the sides will have talks with restricted attendance, then the talks in an extended format, and then a working breakfast as a continuation of the latter talks where ministers and leading businessmen will be present," Ushakov said.

Syrian military to be trained to use Russian S-300 systems within three months

MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. It will take three months to train Syrian specialists to use Russian S-300 air defense systems, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday at a Russian Security Council meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin.

"We have finished personnel recruitment and have begun to train them," he said.

So far, Russia has supplied Syria with 49 equipment pieces as part of delivery of the S-300 air defense system, Shoigu said.

Fed's chairman reiterates gradual rate hikes to manage inflation

WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell reiterated on Tuesday that the Fed will keep raising interest rates steadily in order to manage the underlying inflation risks in U.S. economy.

Speaking at the 60th Annual Meeting of the National Association for Business Economics, Powell said the "historically rare pairing" of low inflation and low unemployment shows that U.S. economy remains in "extraordinary times."

Dubai airport welcomes over 8 mln passengers in Aug

DUBAI, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Dubai International Airport has hosted over 8 million passengers in August, the second consecutive month that saw the number of passengers exceed 8 million, said the Dubai government's media office Wednesday.

On average, the busy civil aviation hub recorded an average monthly traffic of 7.5 million passengers. "That's 1.2 million more than its closest rival London Heathrow of 6.29 million," said the report.

Russia completes delivery of S-300 missile systems to Syria

MOSCOW, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Russia has delivered to Syria S-300 air defense systems to improve safety of its military personnel deployed in the country, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday.

"We have completed the delivery of S-300 systems. This includes 49 pieces of equipment: lighting locators, basic detection systems, control vehicles and four launchers," Shoigu said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the Russian Security Council, according to a Kremlin transcript.

Russia and China eye building joint lunar station

MOSCOW, October 2. /TASS/. Russia is looking at building a lunar station jointly with Chinese partners, CEO of Russia’s state space corporation Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said.

"China is a serious partner. I don’t rule out that as soon as we agree the outlines of our lunar program with the Americans, it is our manned lunar program, the formation of a research station on Moon’s surface is likely to be carried out with our Chinese partners. They can be equal partners already in the coming years," he told Russia’s TV Channel One.

Trump says 'tariff king' India wants trade deal with US primarily to keep him 'happy'

Washington, Oct 2; PTI: US President Donald Trump has slammed "tariff king" India for imposing "tremendously high" tariffs on American products like Harley Davidson motorcycles and said he has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is going to reduce the duties "substantially".

Trump's charges against the alleged high Indian tariffs, for the second time in a few days came during his White House news conference where he announced a new trade deal with neighbouring Mexico and Canada.

Pak cuts CPEC investment in railways by USD 2 bn

Islamabad, Oct 2 (PTI) Pakistan has slashed the Chinese investment in railways by USD 2 billion citing a huge burden of loans, giving credence to reports that the new government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan may scrutinise the multi-billion dollar CPEC, a media report said Tuesday.

Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said that the share of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in the railways has been reduced from USD 8.2 billion to USD 6.2 billion.

Saudi Arabia puts world's biggest solar power project on hold

Citing Saudi government officials, the US business daily Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Monday that Saudi plans to build the world's biggest solar power generation facility had been shelved, as the desert kingdom was working on a "broader, more practical strategy to boost renewable energy."

Canada, Mexico, U.S. reach new free trade deal

OTTAWA/WASHINGTON, Sep. 30 (Xinhua) -- Canada and the United States announced Sunday night that they and Mexico have reached a "new, modernized" North American free trade agreement.

"Today, Canada and the United States reached an agreement, alongside Mexico, on a new, modernized trade agreement for the 21st Century: the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)," said a joint statement from U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland.
