Algeria To Re-Evaluate Association Agreement With EU: President

ALGIERS, Nov 1 (NNN-APS) – Algeria will re-evaluate the association agreement with the European Union (EU), Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said yesterday.

The decision was taken during the cabinet meeting chaired by Tebboune, according to a statement of the presidency.

“Regarding consultations between Algeria and the EU, the president ordered the government to scrupulously re-evaluate the terms of the association agreement, which entered into force in Sept, 2005,” said the statement.

Algeria 'guarantees' continued supply of natural gas to Spain

28 Oct 2021; MEMO: Spanish Minister for Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, made an urgent trip, Wednesday, to Algeria to ensure natural gas supply to Spain amid diplomatic tensions between Algeria and Morocco, Anadolu News Agency reports.

Algeria supplies Spain with around 40 percent of its natural gas, but much of it arrives through the 13.5 billion-cubic-meter Maghreb-Europe (GME) pipeline that flows through Morocco to Spain.

Two Algerian ministries end use of French in official correspondences

22 Oct 2021; MEMO: Two Algerian ministries have decided to end their use of the French language in official correspondence in the light of increasing tensions between Algiers and Paris, Anadolu News Agency reports.

On Thursday, the Algerian Ministry of Vocational Training published a circular on behalf of Minister, Yassin Merapi, requesting staff to use the Arabic language in their official correspondences.

Algeria sentences ex-PM to 10 years in prison for 'corruption'

18 Oct 2021; MEMO: An Algerian court yesterday upheld a 10-year imprisonment sentence against former Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia in the installation and import of Sovac vehicles case.

The court upheld the ruling for the case in which the Algerian businessman Mourad Oulami was handed a 10-year imprisonment sentence, while his brother Haider, was sentenced to five years in jail.

In the same case, the former Aerian energy minister, Youcef Yousf, was sentenced to three years in prison.

Algeria groups boycott imports of 500 French companies

11 Oct 2021; MEMO: The General Assembly of Algerian Contractors, an economic employers' association, yesterday announced that it had decided to boycott the imports of 500 French companies following French President Emmanuel Macron's "harmful comments" about Algeria's history and image.

"We thank all the economic institutions that took the initiative to cut their commercial dealings with about 500 French export and import companies," the body said in a statement.

Algeria demands "total respect" from France to return ambassador to Paris

ALGIERS, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Sunday affirmed that the return of the Algerian Ambassador to France could be conditional on "total respect" from Paris for Algeria.

In an interview aired live on the local media, Tebboune said, "We can't act like nothing happened ... and our ambassador will return to Paris only when France shows total respect for the Algerian state."

Algeria calls for Morocco withdrawal from Western Sahara buffer area to help reach a deal

09 Oct 2021; MEMO: Algeria, the main backer of the Polisario Front, called Thursday for the withdrawal of Moroccan forces from the Guerguerat buffer zone in Western Sahara to facilitate a settlement to the conflict in the region, after the appointment of a new UN envoy.

On Wednesday, the United Nations appointed 74-year-old Italian, Steffan de Mistura, as the new envoy for Western Sahara, after refusing 12 candidates, either by Morocco or the Polisario Front, since the position became vacant in May 2019.

Algeria blasts French leader, recalls ambassador from France

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — Algeria has accused its former colonial ruler France of “genocide” and announced the recall of its ambassador from Paris in anger over what it said were “inadmissible” comments attributed to French President Emmanuel Macron.

The sharp escalation in tensions also follows a French decision to slash the number of visas issued to people in North Africa — including Algeria — because governments there are refusing to take back migrants expelled from France.

Algeria recalls ambassador to France for consultations

03 Oct 2021; MEMO: Algeria has recalled its ambassador to France for consultations after what it called "irresponsible" comments attributed to French President Emmanuel Macron, Algeria's presidency said on Saturday, reports Reuters.

"Following comments that several sources attributed to … Macron, Algeria expresses its categorical rejection of inadmissible interference in its internal affairs," the presidency said in a statement.
