India: Maharashtra extends lockdown till April 30: CM

Mumbai, Apr 11 (PTI) With continuous spike in COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government on Saturday decided to extend the ongoing lockdown till April 30.

Making the announcement, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that the lockdown can be relaxed in certain areas while on others it will become stricter.

He also said that the decision on lifting the curbs completely after April 30 will be taken depending upon the prevailing situation.

India: Salman Khan begins process of transferring funds to daily wage workers

Mumbai, Apr 8 (PTI) Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has started the process of transferring funds into the accounts of daily wage workers of the film industry, the Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE) said on Wednesday.

The actor had recently pledged to financially support 25,000 daily wage workers who have been badly hit by the 21-day lockdown to contain the coronavirus spread in the country.

India: 12 morning walkers arrested in Maha for violating lockdown

Mumbai, Apr 8 (PTI) Twelve people from Navi Mumbai township were arrested on Wednesday for going out on morning walk in violation of the lockdown guidelines, police said.

These people were spotted by police on roads in Navi Mumbai's Panvel area near here early in the morning.

India: Wearing masks must in public places in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 8 (PTI) Amidst growing cases of COVID-19, the Mumbai civic body on Wednesday made wearing of masks at public places compulsory, an official release stated.

Issuing a circular, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also warned of arrest under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for flouting its order.

"All persons moving out for whatever purpose and for whatever reason in public places like streets, hospitals, offices, markets etc must wear mask or cloth mask," it stated.

India: Bachchan teams up with Rajinikanth, Ranbir, Alia for short film on social distancing

Mumbai, Apr 7 (PTI) Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has unveiled a short film, "Family", which talks about the importance of staying at home, maintaining hygiene and social distancing in the times of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Family", which has been conceptualised and virtually directed by Prasoon Pandey, also features Rajinikanth, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Mammootty, Sonali Kulkarni, Shiv Raj Kumar and Prosenjit Chatterjee.

India: Deceased man tests positive for coronavirus in Nagpur

Nagpur, Apr 6 (PTI) A 68-year-old man who died in a hospital in Maharashtra's Nagpur on Sunday tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, a senior official said.

The senior citizen was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) on Saturday for breathing problems.

India: FIR against 150 Tablighi event attendees for negligence

Mumbai, Apr 7 (PTI) Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against 150 people who attended the religious congregation of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in New Delhi last month for alleged negligent act during the coronavirus outbreak, an official said on Tuesday.

The offence was registered on a complaint lodged by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at the Azad Maidan Police Station, he said.

India: Stock of N-95 masks seized in Mumbai

Mumbai, Apr 7 (PTI) Crime branch officials on Tuesday seized the stock of N-95 masks, which are in high demand, and hand sanitiser collectively worth Rs 27.63 lakh from a godown in suburban Goregaon in Mumbai and arrested two persons, police said.

The seized stock was supposed to be sold at inflated rates in black market, an official said.

India: Case against BJP MLA in Maha for violating lockdown norms

Wardha, Apr 6 (PTI) A case been registered against Maharashtra BJP MLA Dadarao Keche for allegedly violating norms related to the ongoing coronavirus-enforced lockdown by asking people to gather at his residence to get free ration on the occasion of his birthday, police said on Monday.

The case against Keche was registered under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) on late Sunday night, police inspector Sampat Chavan said.

India: Maha Health Min Tope holds meeting with Tablighi members

Mumbai, Apr 5 (PTI) As five more COVID-19 patients in Maharashtra were found to have contracted the infection from the people who had attended last month's event in Delhi's Nizamuddin, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Sunday held a meeting with members of Tablighi Jamaat.

Talking to PTI, Tope said this meeting assumed significance as some Tablighi members have been accused of deliberately spreading the infection by not cooperating with the state.
