India: Three SRPF jawans test positive for coronavirus in Pune

Pune, Apr 23 (PTI) Three State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) jawans based in Pune have tested positive for coronavirus, a senior official said on Thursday.

"A companyof around 100 jawans was posted in Mumbai for last two months. They had returned to the Pune headquarters on Saturday, and during check-up, some jawans were found to have symptoms," said the SRPF official.

Three of them tested positive on Wednesday, he added.

All three were admitted to Bharti Vidyapeeth Hospital, he said.

India: Police complaint against Kangana Ranaut over remarks

Mumbai, Apr 24 (PTI) A complaint has been filed with police against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut for allegedly promoting enmity between different groups with her remarks made in support of her sister Rangoli Chandel, an official said on Friday.

The complaint was filed by a lawyer, Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh, at the suburban Amboli Police Station on Wednesday.

India: Actor Ejaz Khan gets bail in objectionable post case

Mumbai, Apr 24 (PTI) A court here on Friday granted bail to actor and former Bigg Boss contestant Ejaz Khan, who was arrested for allegedly uploading an objectionable post on Facebook.

Khan was arrested last week by Khar police in connection with the comment made during a Facebook live session.

He has been charged under section 153A and others of the IPC for promoting enmity among communities.

India: Bajaj Auto's Aurangabad plant restarts operations

Aurangabad, Apr 24 (PTI) Leading automobile manufacturer Bajaj Auto restarted operations at its plant at Aurangabad in Maharashtra on Friday, a senior official said.

Working with a limited work force amid lockdown to contain coronavirus, the company has decided to concentrate on export orders at present, said plant head Abhay Patki.

The plant would be running with 800 employees, he said.

India: Man arrested in Maha for refusing delivery from a Muslim

Thane, Apr 22 (PTI) A resident of Kashimira locality in the district has been arrested for allegedly refusing to take delivery from a Muslim person.

Gajanan Chaturvedi (51) was booked under IPC section 295(A) (malicious act outraging religious feelings) on Tuesday night, a police official said.

Indian Rupee plummets to all-time low of 76.88 against US dollar

Mumbai, Apr 22 (PTI) The Indian rupee plummeted to an all-time low of 76.88 against the US dollar in opening trade on Wednesday, amid strengthening of the US dollar overseas and rise in coronavirus cases in the country.

On April 16, rupee had slumped to 76.87 against US dollar.

India: 'No Muslim arrested for Palghar lynching incident': Maha HM

Mumbai, Apr 22 (PTI) Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday said none of the 101 people arrested in connection with the Palghar lynching case is a Muslim, and accused the opposition of giving a communal colour to the incident.

Terming the incident as unfortunate and a blot on humanity, Deshmukh in a Facebook address said this is not the time to play politics, and urged all to engage in collective efforts to defeat the deadly coronavirus.

India: Woman cop at Maha CM's official residence tests positive

Mumbai, Apr 21 (PTI) A woman police constable posted at `Varsha', the official residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister, tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday, a senior official said.

Also, a male constable at the official residence of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Devendra Fadnavis has tested positive, according to a civic official.

India: PIL seeks probe by CBI or SIT in Palghar lynching

Mumbai, Apr 22 (PTI) A public interest litigation was filed in the Bombay High Court on Wednesday, seeking that the probe in the Palghar lynching case be handed over to an independent agency like the CBI or a special investigation team be set up for it.

The petition, filed by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava, has also sought that the high court monitor the probe and seek periodical reports from the investigating agency.
