Responders dig for bodies in Moroccan mountain villages devastated by last week’s earthquake

IMI N’TALA, Morocco (AP) — The stench of death wafted through the village of Imi N’Tala high up in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, where last week’s catastrophic earthquake razed the hamlet’s mud-brick buildings and killed dozens of residents.

Bulldozers and responders have been digging through the wreckage around the clock in the hopes of finding the eight to 10 corpses still underneath, even as an aftershock Wednesday evening rattled already frayed nerves.

No India-Mideast- EU economic corridor without Turkiye; Erdogan

12 September 2023; MEMO: Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that plans announced by India, Saudi Arabia and the EU to create a trade corridor that would link South Asia to Europe and bypass Turkiye “will not work”.

Speaking to reporters upon his return from the G20 summit in India, Erdogan stressed that the most suitable traffic line from east to west is the line crossing from Turkiye.

Algeria to send emergency humanitarian aid to flood-stricken Libya

12 September 2023; MEMO: Algeria said, Tuesday, it will airlift emergency humanitarian aid to Libya following a deadly storm and floods that killed hundreds, Anadolu Agency reports.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said eight aircraft loaded with foodstuff, medical supplies, clothes and tents will be dispatched to the flood-hit country.

The statement, however, did not specify a date for sending the aid.

Israel military admits shooting innocent Palestinians

12 September 2023; MEMO: The Israeli military acknowledged yesterday that occupation soldiers had mistakenly attacked and imprisoned three innocent Palestinians last month leaving them with life-altering injuries.

According to the Times of Israel, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that occupation soldiers fired at several Palestinians who were supposedly throwing makeshift explosives from a moving vehicle towards a nearby military post near the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

Iran: Five US citizens detained in Iran 'in full health'; Raisi

12 September 2023; MEMO: Five US citizens detained in Iran, who are expected to be swapped for five Iranians imprisoned in the United States as early as next week, are “in full health”, Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, said in a television interview on Tuesday, Reuters reports.
