New Israeli settlement construction to cut Jerusalem from West Bank

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: Israeli settlement watchdog organisation, Peace Now, reported yesterday that new Israeli settlement construction aims to split occupied East Jerusalem from the occupied West Bank.

Peace Now revealed that the Israeli Ministry of Housing and Israel Land Authority yesterday began accepting bids for 1,257 housing units to be built in the settlement of Givat HaMatos.

Egypt's unemployment rate fell to 7.3% in Q3

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: The unemployment rate in Egypt has fallen to 7.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2020, compared to 7.8 per cent in the same period last year, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said yesterday.

CAPMAS said the unemployment rate rose to 9.6 per cent in the second quarter from April to June of 2020 due to the economic repercussions of the coronavirus.

Hamas, Fatah delegations head to Cairo for meetings

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: Leaders from the two main Palestinian movements Hamas and Fatah left the Gaza Strip yesterday to join mutual meetings for delegations of their movements in Cairo, Anadolu reported.

An official source told Anadolu that the leaders included Hamas Political Bureau member Khalil Al-Hayya and senior Fatah leader Ahmad Hillis.

Israel: Netanyahu heard calling rival Bennett 'little dog'

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was heard calling his right-wing rival Naftali Bennett "little dog" in recordings dating back to 2018, local media revealed on Saturday.

The recording was aired by Israeli TV Channel 13, which said it would air more recordings today.

Turkey special forces arrive in Libya ahead of Erdogan's visit

16 Nov 2020; MEMO:Two military aircrafts carrying Turkish special forces arrived in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, on Friday in preparation for the upcoming visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported.

The paper quoted "informed" sources as saying that Erdogan will visit the Turkish forces in the city of Misrata, in western Libya, who support the internationally-recognised Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA).

Saudi to Germany: We can buy arms from other countries

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir slammed Germany over its ban on arms sales to the kingdom due to its involvement in the war in Yemen, DPA reported yesterday.

"The idea that weapon sales were stopped to Saudi Arabia because of the Yemen war I think is illogical," the minister said, pointing out: "We think it's wrong because we think the war in Yemen is a legitimate war. It's a war that we were forced into it."

Algeria to reimpose restrictions after coronavirus cases rise

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: Algeria will reimpose restrictions to combat the spread of COVID-19 from November 17, including closing gyms, cultural centres, leisure venues, and used car markets, and limited opening hours for some businesses, the prime minister's office said on Sunday.

The new measures are aimed at coping with "the worrying phase that the country is experiencing in terms of the evolution of the epidemiological situation," it said in a statement.

Pelestine: Hamas slams UAE meeting with Israel settlers

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: Hamas yesterday slammed the UAE after it received an Israeli settlement chief along with settlers and businessmen.

In a statement, the movement said: "Receiving the head of the settlement council in the West Bank by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and signing economic deals with him represents actual support for settlement activity in the occupied West Bank."
