Sudanese gov't, armed groups sign peace deal to end conflicts

KHARTOUM, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- After a full year of negotiations, the Sudanese government and armed groups on Saturday signed a final peace deal in South Sudan's capital Juba to end armed conflicts.

The signing ceremony, which was broadcast live by Sudan's official TV, was attended by South Sudan's President Salva Kiir, Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.

Israelis persist in rallies against PM despite lockdown

Tel Aviv, Oct 4 (AP/PTI) Tens of thousands of Israelis demonstrated in hundreds of locations across Israel against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pressing ahead with their campaign against the Israeli leader on Saturday night after the government banned large, centralized demonstrations as part of a new coronavirus lockdown.

The protesters have been gathering outside Netanyahu's official residence in Jerusalem each week for over three months, demanding his resignation.

Pilgrims return to Mecca as Saudi eases virus restrictions

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — A very small, limited number of people donning the white terrycloth garment symbolic of the Muslim pilgrimage circled Islam’s holiest site in Mecca on Sunday after Saudi Arabia lifted coronavirus restrictions that had been in place for months.

The kingdom had taken the rare step of suspending the smaller “umrah” pilgrimage that draws millions year-round from across the world in early March as the coronavirus morphed into a global pandemic and prompted countries to impose lockdowns and curfews to slow down transmission.

Palestine Extends State Of Emergency For 30 Days Amid COVID-19

RAMALLAH, Oct 3 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Friday declared an extension of the state of emergency by 30 days, in the Palestinian territories, in a bid to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The extension starts today.

In a presidential decree, Abbas urged the concerned authorities “to continue to take all necessary measures to face the dangers, resulting from the virus, protect public health, and achieve security and stability.”

15 Palestinians Injured In Clashes With Israeli Soldiers In West Bank

RAMALLAH, Oct 3 (NNN-WAFA) – At least 15 Palestinians were injured on Friday, in clashes with Israeli soldiers, in different parts of the West Bank, medical sources and eyewitnesses said.

The sources said, 15 Palestinian young men were injured by rubber-coated metal gunshots, besides dozens, who suffocated after inhaling tear gas that Israeli soldiers fired to disperse them.

Turkey rejects 'superficial' Caucasus ceasefire calls

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkey rejected “superficial” demands for a ceasefire on Saturday in the South Caucasus, where it backs Azerbaijan, after a week of fierce fighting with ethnic Armenian forces in the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh enclave.

While Russia, the United States and France have called for an end to hostilities, regional power Turkey has staunchly supported the Azeris and has repeated that what it called Armenian “occupiers” must withdraw.

Iran: Schools and mosques closed in Tehran as COVID-19 infections rise

(Reuters) - Schools, libraries, mosques and other public institutions in Tehran were closed for a week on Saturday as part of measures to stem a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, state media cited authorities in the Iranian capital as saying.

The closure plan, which will also affect universities, seminaries, libraries, museums, theatres, gyms, cafes and hair salons in the Iranian capital, came after Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Coronavirus Taskforce, called for the shutdown to help control the epidemic.

Turkey vows to continue providing support to Libya government

03 Oct 2020; MEMO: The Turkish Ministry of Defence announced that Ankara will continue to provide training, assistance and advisory support to the United Nations (UN)-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA).

The Defence Ministry posted on Twitter on Friday that the maritime demarcation agreement signed by Turkey and the GNA had been registered by the UN on Thursday.
