Erdogan asks NATO allies to show "concrete solidarity" with Turkey

ANKARA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday asked NATO members to demonstrate "concrete solidarity" with his country, the presidential communications directorate said.

During his meeting with visiting NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Erdogan "stressed that NATO allies should demonstrate concrete solidarity with Turkey" as "NATO has a very important role and responsibility to prevent attempts that risk the functionality of the Alliance," said the directorate in a statement released after the meeting.

Palestine to start talks with Guterres about international peace conference

05 Oct 2020; MEMO: Palestine’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, is to start consultations with the international organisation’s Secretary-General about an international peace conference. Mansour told Voice of Palestine that he is scheduled to begin separate consultations next week with Antonio Guterres and members of the UN Security Council to discuss such a conference.

Syrian opposition forces shoot down Russian drone in Latakia

05 Oct 2020; MEMO: Syrian opposition forces shot down a Russian drone in Latakia at the same time that the regime army announced that it is deploying reinforcements to Idlib in the north of Syria, Safa news agency reported on Sunday. The drone was downed at Al-Akrad Mountain in the countryside to the north of Latakia, apparently as it headed for Idlib.

Egypt FM, UN Special Envoy Discuss Syria Crisis

CAIRO, Oct 5 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, received on Sunday, a phone call from UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, during which they discussed the developments of the Syrian crisis, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

“The call touched on ways to advance the political settlement of the Syrian crisis,” said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ahmed Hafez, in a statement.

Israel arrests 22 Palestinians including 12 policemen in West Bank

05 Oct 2020; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces yesterday arrested 22 Palestinians from different parts of the occupied West Bank, including 12 policemen, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPS) reported.

The PPS said that all of the 22 Palestinian detainees were sent to interrogation centres over claims they took part in popular resistance action against illegal settlers and occupation forces.

Saudi gold production reaches record levels

05 Oct 2020; MEMO: Saudi Arabia’s total production of gold increased 158 per cent to 12,353 kilogrammes in 2019 compared to the 4,789 kilogrammes recorded in 2014, a new report revealed.

According to the publication, the kingdom has also increased its total production of silver, reaching 5,588 kilogrammes in 2019 compared to 4,800 kilogrammes in 2014.

Female journalist forcibly disappeared in Egypt

05 Oct 2020; MEMO: A female Egyptian journalist has been forcibly disappeared as she was covering popular protests against the regime of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, news agencies reported yesterday.

Thirty-year-old Basma Mustafa, who worked for Al-Manassa news website, was covering the police crackdown against protesters in Luxor after a youth was killed last week.
