Jordan: Islamic Action Front to run in parliamentary elections

22 Sep 2020; MEMO: Jordan’s moderate Islamist opposition, Islamic Action Front, announced yesterday that it will run in the parliamentary elections slated for 10 November, Anadolu reported.

The announcement came in a press conference in the capital Amman by the party’s Deputy Secretary-General, Wael Al-Sakka.

US imposing political, economic and financial siege on Palestine: PA

22 Sep 2020; MEMO: Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said yesterday that the US is imposing a political, economic and financial siege on the Palestinian leadership, Anadolu reported.

At the beginning of his weekly cabinet meeting, Shtayyeh said US President Donald Trump had stopped American assistance for the Palestinians and prevented some Arab states from paying funding they had pledged.

Jordan sentences king’s uncle to 9 years in prison

22 Sep 2020; MEMO: A Jordanian court has sentenced Walid Al-Kurdi, the husband of King Abdullah’s aunt, to nine years in prison and issued a fine of nine million dinars ($12.7 million), local media reported yesterday.

Al-Kurdi, the husband of Princess Basma Bint Talal, is a former president of the Phosphate Company. He has been living in London since 2013.

Five Pro-Gov’t Fighters Killed In Explosion In East Syria

DAMASCUS, Sept 21 (NNN-SANA) – Five pro-government fighters were killed in a blast, in the eastern province of Deir al-Zour in Syria, a war monitor reported.

The five fighters were killed by a landmine explosion, that targeted their vehicle a day earlier, in a desert region in the western countryside of Deir al-Zour, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Mideast energy forum takes shape to promote gas exports

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Seven energy ministers will sign the charter of a new Middle East energy forum that will promote natural gas exports from the eastern Mediterranean to Europe and other markets, Israeli energy officials said on Monday.

“The East Mediterranean Gas Forum, which until now has been a stage for discussions only, is in fact becoming a real international organization,” said Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz.
